Guest #1 April 1, 2003 Hey gang. Back from a few days' absence. Got another sinus operation last Thursday. Some of you may recall my mentioning that I got a sinusotomy last September, just one week before I went to Saskatoon to do a Skydiving Magazine story on Michel Fournier. Unfortunately, some scar tissue was left behind from the first "roto-rooter" job and was causing problems, so much so that the surgeon ordered another CT scan and did another endoscopic job up my nose. The surgeon was right - it was nowhere near as bad this time, but I'm still feeling kinda weird. Probably because of the packing up inside my nasal passages causing pressure. Naturally, I was disappointed that the first operation didn't do the trick, but since this is very delicate surgery taking place within millimeters of the base of the brain, the slow/cautious approach is called for. kingbunky 3 #5 April 1, 2003 let me know how it works out... i had an operation on my nose, but it didn't take and i have to go back for a repeat... i hate the part when they pull the packing out, i swear there was about 8 feet of gauze up there! he grabbed it and pulled it to full arm extension, then grabbed near my nose again and pulled some more. then he did it to the other side! brought tears to my eyes."Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." Hope you feel better, enjoy the pain pills. The first time, I had these long, half-round, banana-shaped splints made of clear soft silicone up there, and two pieces of packing that when removed looked like square (and spent) tampons about 2" long. Eeew. At no time did I have the "miles of gauze" I have heard others describe. This time it's just the tampon-like packing, and they'll be swapped out with fresh ones tomorrow. BTW I'm sorry if this sounds yucky, but it's the only descriptor I can think of. Hope nobody's having lunch. "The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." After the first surgery, I went about 5 months without a raging sinus infection; whereas before, I was getting them back to back.
