$#@!^&!! Media !!

Recommended Posts

Is anyone else who's following the war tired of the media wondering why it's dark in Baghdad?

The claim is "the Coalition Forces haven't targeted power plants, yet it's dark in Baghdad".

Lets use a little common sense, shall we -

A. A foreign force (not familiar with the surroundings) is invading your turf (which you know like the back of your hand) is it to your advantage to have the battlefield illuminated? The first advantage to maintain when YOUR perimeter is violated, is visual. If you have an unwelcome "guest" in your home, the last thing to do is turn on the lights - that puts you and the offender on level (visual) ground.

B. A foreign force is kicking your ass, and requesting your troups and constituants to side with them, or be liquidated. Would not "killing" the power be to your advantage - why expose your compromised position to all? Public communications rely on municipal electricity, inter-unit military communications, and weapons systems are independently powered.

I'm not in the military, or on television - but this seems like common sense, yes ?

Turning off the lights when your troops don't have Night Vision Goggles (NVG's or Nods) and the attacking troops do, puts your troops at a disadvantage. Leaving the lights on would negate our night-fighting capabilities and would be their best option, an equal playing field.

Ahh yes...but it may be that some of our friends from Europe or Asia may have sold some night-vision gear... ..hmm..
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

Our Russian "friends", and others saw to it that they have night vision technology.

A friend of mine has a monocular night scope. I own a GPS, as do several of my friends. They are not difficult to get. But it is difficult to equip several divisions with them. They also require training to fight with effectively. I seriously doubt the Iraqi night fighting capabilities of their troops near Baghdad are anywhere near the US's capabilities. Lights out is an advantage for our troops, not theirs.

I doubt that the US are going into downtown Baghdad tonight so all the talk of trying to get a level playing field is misguided in my opinion.

However as the propoganda minister has said there are no coalition forces within 100 miles of Baghdad and they expell the arabic media of Al-Jazeer speaks volumes of a dictatorship trying to keep the truth from the masses by depriving the masses of any means to recieve news i.e. turn off all the electricity. As if they have no power they can't use TV, hopefully not radio, nor the pesky internet as heaven forbid they find out how fucked the regime is they may rise up en mass and slot SH and friends.

My 2 cents.
