jlmiracle 7 #1 April 4, 2003 So I bought gas at Costco. The day I got it, the pumps were moving really slow. Anyway, when there was about 1/4 tank left, we had a really hard time getting it started. Hubby said there must be water in the gas tank. We "fixed" the problem with some heet and a tank of better gas. I sent Costco and e-mail letting them know what happened and which location I bot the gas, hoping they might go clean/check their tanks. Believe it or not, I wasn't a bitch to them, just giving them an FYI. Here was their response: Dear Judy, Thank you for e-mailing Costco Wholesale. In response to your question regarding Costco gasoline: Many of the major oil companies source at least a portion of their crude oil and even some of their refined product from the Middle East. Among those companies "on record" are Shell, Chevron/Texaco, Exxon/Mobil, Marathon and BP/Amoco/Arco. However, the branded gas stations for these companies are not necessarily the final destination for the refined product. Independent gas stations like Costco, largely get their fuel from suppliers who trade and swap inventories all over the country. It is impossible to trace the origin of every gallon of fuel purchased. We can tell you that we have no direct supply contracts with any of the major oil companies listed above. It would be irresponsible though, to suggest that none of the gasoline we buy originated in the Middle East. Thank you for taking the time to share your questions and concerns. We appreciate your continued patronage. Sincerely, Peggy S. customerservice@costco.com Are they trying to blame the middle east for watered down gas? I can't some laughing about this. PhillyKev 0 #2 April 4, 2003 Probably a standard form letter they send out. They're probably getting swamped with emails asking what the source of their gas it. Which is an illegitimate question. Pretty much all of the gas in the country is all mixed together in one shared pipeline. The only difference between the different companies is the additives they put in right before delivery to the station (usually mixed right in the tanker truck when they fill it to deliver). Thank you History channel.

jlmiracle 7 #7 April 4, 2003 When I sent the e-mail it was more of a hint to them to clean their tanks. I never asked them where they got their gas and I honestly don't give a crap where they get it from, I just want good gas. Their response was just so funny. It reminded me of the SUV owners supporting terrorist thing.Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. skydiverbob 0 #8 April 4, 2003 Guess you should have been bitchy. Probably would have got the same result, but they may have passed it on, or not.Who Dares Wins
skydiverbrian 0 #9 April 4, 2003 QuoteThank you History channel. I'm with you, Kev. It all comes out of the same pipeline, so there's no difference. That was a kewl show, too. I feel so edumakated. PhillyKev 0 #10 April 4, 2003 QuoteDon't trust everything you see or hear on the telly Kev....... I don't. But they showed the whole infrastructure and how it's managed. All of the major oill refineries are connected by a common pipeline. After the gas is produced from the oil it is all put into a common pipe and mixed together. It's only separated by octane, not by refinery. It then gets piped to the distribution centers of the different gas station companies. Even the different octanes are in the same pipe, they separate them with these plugs in the pipe called "pigs" so the octanes don't get mixed, but they don't separate it out by refinery.
