BoobieCootie 0 #1 April 7, 2003 I just got a company wide email informing us about potential traffic problems due to the Mariners Opening Day. I think I'll know where to find the Knights after they land: Pyramid beer across the street ----------------- Following is information regarding upcoming activity at Safeco Field that may be of interest to Starbucks Support Center and Northwest Regional Office partners. Weather permitting, the Golden Knights U.S. Army Parachute Team will participate in the Seattle Mariners Opening Day festivities from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8. To prepare for the event, up to 11 parachutists will participate in a practice jump from 4 to 5 p.m. on Monday, April 7. A C-31A fixed wing aircraft will serve as the jump "platform." The plane will take off and land at Boeing Field and will pass over Safeco Field at an altitude of 4,000 feet. The 11 parachutists will perform a “mass exit” show in which all jumpers exit the aircraft and simultaneously perform one of many geometrical formations in the sky. Once the parachutes open the jumpers will land in succession on a target inside Safeco Field. Traffic may be slowed due to motorists watching the practice today and during tomorrow's event. Traffic will be heavier than usual around Safeco Field on Tuesday, April 8, prior to the 2:05 p.m. start of the Mariners game.

I know the Knights are quick, but are they going to be able to bust out more than just a couple of formations before pull time?"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." BoobieCootie 0 #3 April 7, 2003 Another example of whuffo writing. Had I known about this, I would have brought my camera with me. But tomorrow b/w 1-2pm, I'll be standing on the NE corner of my building to catch the action.
Guest #4 April 7, 2003 Too bad I can't make it. Oh well, let's hope for blue skies tomorrow...yeah, like that'll happen! Maybe the 4k bit was for real. That way, they'll only bust through a thousand feet of cloud cover... "The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
BoobieCootie 0 #5 April 7, 2003 I went, I looked, but the roof was closed so I doubt the Knights will be jumping in today's rain and cloudsBut tomorrow, I hope will be sunny

Guest #7 April 8, 2003 Quote The sun is out, the roof is open, and I've got my camera I hate you, Bill...I hate you. Seriously, the forecast is crap. Won't be much of a show. Just as well. I'm stuck here at work and can't see. Even if I could I wouldn't be able to get into the stadium."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." BoobieCootie 0 #9 April 8, 2003 You didn't miss much Mark. The Knights must have circled the stadium 7 or 8 times and throwing out wind drift indicators (5 in all), but that's it.Winds are high and changing directions. For those who don't know Safeco Field, it's between I-5 and the Alaska Viaduct (Hwy 99). An off-landing is a scary thoughtBut I still got ~30mins goof-time
indyz 1 #10 April 9, 2003 From the Seattle Times:Quote The Mariners still put on a show. Circling about 4,000 feet above the field, the U.S. Army's Golden Knights parachute team was preparing to deliver the ceremonial first pitch by parachuting into the ballpark. After about a dozen passes around the ballpark, the idea was scrapped because of high winds. "We'd rather jump out of the airplane than land in it," said a disappointed Sgt. Calvin Fredlake, 32, a former Green Beret who was preparing for his 858th lifetime jump. He said jumps are "hit or miss" depending on conditions. Stadium performances tend to be the most difficult because the wind currents change once the parachutist enters the lip of the grandstands. The Golden Knights serve as a public-relations and recruiting tool for the U.S. Army, putting on demonstrations, talking to high-school students, visiting hospitals and entering international skydiving competitions.
