Guest #1 April 8, 2003 For those who are interested, there is some excellent video from beautiful downtown Baghdad, showing an A-10 Warthog (perhaps the one that was shot down yesterday; then again, perhaps not ). The footage shows the plane diving down, hosing targets with the fearsome GAU-8, then soaring up again, jinking and popping flares, It reminds me of an air show, with death thrown in for good measure . It even appears that the A-10 peppers a hotel with the GAU-8 at one point, though I could be wrong. The j-script pop-up won't help you from here. Go to Reuters Raw Video. Guest #5 April 8, 2003 Me too (a friend's dad was an AF reservist that flew them). The recoil causes a noticeable airspeed drop along with the noise and vibration, but since the plane is usually pointed at a target on the ground, they can recover and pick up speed in time to avoid a stall. crapflinger2000 1 #7 April 8, 2003 I knew some dork ass who insisted that the recoil was so strong it in fact STOPPED THE PLANE IN MID AIR for a brief instant. Of course this would imply that the plane's engines were so strong that they could pretty much instantly accelerate the plane back up to speed. the fact that this guy was our DZO and flew our king air on a regular basis alarmed me no end... __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?
