You'll also need to buy the electric plane (called a Porter, but it ain't a Pilatus) to get him to altitude. I asked the guys at the local hobby shop, and they said that all together, with radios and batteries (not included in the kits), the whole shebang would cost upwards of $500. Will he have to put x number of jumps on that big ole foil then move on to an even smaller canopy?-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. VectorBoy 0 #10 April 9, 2003 QuoteDoes anyone know what those new radio control gliders are called? they are shaped like a wing They are not new. been around for at least a decade. Very popular now that cheap radios can do channel mixing. Zagi's were one of the originators but down at the cliffs aroud southern california you'll find a vast mix of flyers customizing and fabing their own, often for word of mouth small batch distribution. They are very popular at Perris. There is a designer that works nearby. Sometimes the boyz will do nite launches with lite sticks attached over the party. There are electrics also for more airtime. Its all fun. Glen

jerry81 10 #12 April 9, 2003 Quote nah....drop him from your regular jumpship. I want one This may be just the thing for you; I hear that new radio-controlled skydivers are available. The controls have been improved- jumper can be controlled by voice input! These new models are slightly bigger than the original radio-controlled skydiver and come in a variety of shapes, although the common name for them is 'Students'. The suggested method for deploying them is from a normal-sized jump plane, using static line, but regular freefall deployment is also possible (some modifications necessary). The downside is, these new models are only fun the first couple of jumps, and must then be replaced. Even so, the demand is high, so you have to meet certain requirements before you can a fly a 'Student' of your own.

DJL 235 #14 April 9, 2003 Quote Comments from a Junior Jumper owner: I just wanted to write and tell you that the Junior Jumper is so much fun!! I've been modeling in R/C since 1981 and have always been very, very involved in the hobby. But I must tell you that this R/C skydiver has me wanting to get to the field even more. The Junior Jumper is working GREAT!! I've built two now and have perfected it with ease. All the club members here are buzzing about it. And to make matters even better, the AMA's magazine, Model Aviation, just had a very good article on R/C Skydivers. It was so exciting to read that article and to know that I am and have for a short time been doing R/C Skydiving thanks to your excellent R/C Skydiver. I can tell you this: with all the response I'm getting from all the jumps I'm making with the Junior Jumper...you will be getting more orders for this fine jumper. So please, pass this letter along to the proper people that have made this jumper possible, not to mention all the good fun that I've had and all our club members here at the Gun Lake Propbusters have had watching it jump and then land in their laps. So please pass this on to the proper people. Let them know that they have good workmanship and are producing an excellent and quality product. It's things like this Jumper that can really spark a lot of interest in our hobby. And believe me with all the things that have happened in the past year we need good and fun things like this to look forward to. Sincerely, Steve W. loughery 0 #15 April 9, 2003 I made a 1.1 square foot 5 cell last year and the only way I could pack it was by flat packing it. I used a small bag of dried beans as the jumper. I would take it up with me on a jump then while under canopy i would take it out of my little cypress pouch and let it go. Never did get the weight and glide ratio right so it would fly beside me. it floated and disapeared behind me. There is always this season. This time I have f-111 instead of an old sheet cut up.
