Terminal Velocity

Recommended Posts

Will someone please post the explaination of the reasons we fall faster than 120 mph for my dear non skydiving friend who is about to piss me off? He says its against the laws of physics and I was always drunk in physics and I can't come up with a comeback on my own (although I did hit damn near 200 mph on my head with a certain someone here over Christmas).
Thanks!!

Jess

Terminal velocity is the velocity at which drag exactly balances force due to gravity. If drag decreases because your surface area decreases, velocity increases until the two balance again.

If he doubts this, ask him to drive on a straight highway at a steady 60mph with the windows down. Once at a steady speed, engine power is exactly matching drag. Then, without moving the accelerator, roll all the windows up. This will decrease drag. The car will go a little faster, until the two forces balance again.

lol.

terminal velocity is the maximum speed for a given attitude at a specific pressure.

tell your friend his knowledge of physics is rather lame..:P

here an interesting site specifically discussing skydiving..

Jess.
I bet he's telling you that all thinga fall at the same rate....right?

tell him thats true..ina vacuum! not in the sky

then if he doesnt believe you tell him that you bet his pants will fall faster then yours when you take them off( he'll be out of them in a flash....)
then use the vacuum on his umm. junk and see if gets the fukn point LOL:o:P

Mujie: I had an argument or discussion whichever you prefer to call it very similar to this one with a boss of mine. Of course he tried to prove me wrong with his possession of a college degree but even when I showed him the explanation that the USPA gives and such he still wasnt convinced. Finally I caught on that my boss was one of those that is always right even if they are WRONG. Its pointless to argue with someone that knows everything.:S
He knew everything about nothing.:D

Here's a good link that's not too tough on the brain. Perhaps this will bring him to his senses. If not, throw his ass outta the plane with a Pro Track so he can see for himself!

Speed = gravitation attraction - drag.
Body position can be changed to decrease or increase drag.

The easiest way to prove the point is the obvious one. A skydiver with a packed parachute and an open parachute weigh the same, true? Which one falls slowest, the one with the most drag. B|

Quick talkin' to whuffos and your brain won't hurt. :)

Now you see that??? We're smarter than those fools who have college degrees! Wait a minute...I have a college degree.....
