kevin922 0 #1 April 11, 2003 Just curious.. as a former network administrator I know the costs involved with things such as websites, and I do realize the size of this one and have a pretty good idea what HH is having to chunk over each month to keep it running. (In lamens terms it works out to about a rig every 2 months at my best guess*) So I am thinking it isn't a matter of IF dz.com will become a subscription site its a matter of WHEN**. So how much are you guys willing to pay ? * A rig constitutes a wings container with all the options, a cheap main cheap reserve and no cypres ** There are other factors that could prevent DZ.com from becoming a pay site such as sponsorship, increase in marketing for advertisers, HH's endless supply of money, and the like. Zenister 0 #3 April 11, 2003 leave it at a donation level, pay membership sites dont get the wide audience and sources of information that a free site has.. that said i think its obvious how much i value the info and friendship i've found here... edited: since i said the exact opposite of what i intended... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. peppermint 0 #4 April 11, 2003 Why not sell more t-shirts, shorts, backpacks... fundraiser type things? Offer monthly raffles for nice prizes. Maybe have free use of the site, but email account would be $9 a month, or something similar. Just my .02. The flowing wave returns not, nor does the passing hour. peppermint 0 #5 April 11, 2003 I almost forgot. Why not charge the dz's for their listing. They get advertising from this site, so it would make perfect sense to pay for it. The flowing wave returns not, nor does the passing hour.

mujie96 0 #7 April 11, 2003 I won't normally pay for more than the one porn site I like but HH is working his ass off if I'm not mistaken and its seems like a reasonable idea to ask for something. Just keep swimming...just keep swimming....
PhillyKev 0 #8 April 11, 2003 Quoteleave it at a donation level, pay membership sites dont get the wide audience and sources of information that a free site has.. I agree, but most free sites also have a lot more annoying ads. Another way to help out besides donations is to remember to click on the few, discreet, tastefully placed ads on the site frequently. RevJim 0 #9 April 11, 2003 It would also help if that one ad I click on, the one that goes to a Tshirt from GoWear, was PayPal enabled. It's your life, live it! Karma RB#684 "Corcho", ASK#60, Muff#3520, NCB#398, NHDZ#4, C-33989, DG#
PhreeZone 20 #10 April 11, 2003 Once you click an ad... buy something and tell them that you got to their site via their DZ.com ad. As people start seeing a benifit to advertizing here they will buy more ads.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

mattb 0 #12 April 12, 2003 My 2 cents: If there is a fee: make it annual, not monthly. (think magazine subscription) I generally find myself ok with sites that have content I enjoy and changes daily paying $20-40 per year. wsj.com, nytimes cross puzzles, etc. That being said - talk back isn't payworthy content. If the site has to go to pay level I would want to see fresh skydiving-related content that was was both entertaining and educational and not just the forums. skycat 0 #13 April 12, 2003 Quote (However, several frequent posters e.g. billvon, hooknswoop, etc. are more than qualified to contribute this content) Hooknswoop is about to be charged per experiment. Let's see, rigs in the shower, risers in the freezer, canopies mating like rabbits in the living room (they make the cutest little pilot chutes)....yep he is being charged.Fly it like you stole it! Faber 0 #16 April 12, 2003 Well i like this site werry much. How ever i if i want to pay it should be donation like its now.i know another way to make monyone web im at ill need to see 10 sek of comercial each time i log in becours i dont want to pay.Its okay to me that they show that the first 10 sek before i can go to the page. I dont know about the guest thing, they could get pup up comercials as long as they aint a member. i dont know, but im sure i would use some of thouse other free skydive and BASE forums instead(which i use at the same time as i use this). I think HH makes a great job and i understand the problem, but i think there are other ways to clear this problem.. Stay safe Stefan Faber

loughery 0 #19 April 14, 2003 If we stoped people from adding attachments to posts and everyone made clicky links to the pictures, this might cut down on bandwidth.
