"Placerville is a charming California "gold rush" town named after the placer gold deposits found in its’ river beds and hills in the late 1840’s." On the subject of Dropzones, Skydance Skydiving near Davis California (close to Sacremento) Is a very nice place. I have no doubt if you go there finding a place to stay for the weekend would not be too difficult. It is the closest thing to a city (now) to Sutters Mill which most Americans are taught in school as the site that started the California Gold Rush.
