I am not asking in order to make any value judgements or anything, since as a former reservist I would be a hypocrite to say that a Motor T dude is any less valuable to the effort than an 0311 infantry guy. rhino 0 #58 April 13, 2003 Every Marine is a rifleman first.. Even as a resurvist you should know that. What did I do in the Marines? I was Comm.. Small Computer Systems Specialist. Also competed in the Marine Corps Pistol and Rifle competitions for 6 months. That was 4 years. Did 2 years active reserve time after that.. And 2 years inactive after that. We were, of course, learning to stand at attention while the Brazilian national anthem was being played. I always remember her saying that, especially when I see a motel with a tattered flag, or a car dealership with one sitting out bedraggled in the rain. I'm not nearly as against using the flag as a symbol of protest, as I am against treating it carelessly. If one uses it as a symbol of protest, that's still respect -- you know you're making a strong statement. One that's likely to garner a strong reaction. If you wear it on your backside as a patch, that just says you don't care in some ways. It's not respectful or honoring it.
