peek 21 #1 May 21, 2012 I know someone that needs red M18 smoke cartridges, maybe quantity 2-4. Anyone have any available?
dpreguy 14 #2 May 22, 2012 There are a whole new bunch of complications regarding military smoke now. The little primers (same ones as in shotgun shells, etc) are now classified as prohibited if they are in a smoke grenade, which now makes military style smokes regulated by either homeland sec or atf, or both. Which is stupid, as you can buy shotgun shells and possess them and carry them in your car, but not military style smoke grenades. The ones with the strikers. Also, if you have one in your car, the US DOT can grab you. etc. I've used a lot of them from ALS and would love to buy some more, but now ........ peek 21 #3 May 22, 2012 Thanks for the update Walt. I think these folks may have to settle for the white smoke you can get from Para-Gear.

My $.02 - it would be seen better if you taped a 5-lb bag of flour to your leg and poked a small hole in it... I like Paragear, but those things suck. As Walt said, you may want to have the interested party reconsider using M-18's unless they have the proper ATF license, I know of TWO jumpers now that have had to answer to federal charges just for being in possession of said items, stakes go up if ya 'transport' them and through the roof for 'use' without proper paperwork....IF ya get caught. Now if the whole ATF - Homeland Security thing doesn't leave ya shakin' yer head...consider this~ I use to buy M-18's for 5.00 a unit when I lived on the left coast back in the 80's & 90's. Burned a couple hundred every air-show season, when they went up to 10.00 a can, changed the act to use less...inventory is precious in the demo business but when I started getting offers to buy M-18's @ 100.00 a unit some years back ~ I sold all I had! There ARE alternatives besides Para-Gear 'cool' smoke BTW, but pretty much anything with a hammer/primer igniter requires a pyro license. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
peek 21 #6 May 25, 2012 Thanks for the updates on the legalities. I had no idea. Damn terrorists screwed it up for us didn't they? This also reminds me that about a year or two ago there was a guy posting here about smoke cartridges he was designing for skydiving, and we haven't heard from him have we? Or is that the source now.
