NoShitThereIWas 0 #3 April 21, 2003 I can't sleep either. I AM burning the midnight oil trying to get through this nightmarish physics exam from hell but I also can't help but have other disturbing thoughts after everything that happened this weekend. It bothers me thinking about FreeflyHol and other thoughts of what was also feared today to be too close a call for one of our tandemmasters and his passenger. Today was not a great day for news. FliegendeWolf 0 #4 April 21, 2003 Add me to the list... If I were smart, I'd be using this time productively, but as Edward Norton's character said in Fight Club, when you have insomnia, you're not really asleep and you're not really awake. KawiZX900 0 #6 April 21, 2003 events of the weekend. Holly was going to be my room mate. Trying to figure out what's what. Found a new place to live in order to save around 300 bucks a month, and I've got a week to make that move in order to not pay rent twice. Just thought I'd call ad's in the reader about rooms to share in order to keep myself busy, and ended up meeting a really cool person from my home town 20 states from home looking for a room mate to share a cool apt.Stayed up till around 4:30-5 last night so I pretty much wrecked my equalibrium for the week. Tasadin 0 #7 April 21, 2003 Dunno if it helps buddy but were all thinking about everyone who's been effected this weekend. And whilst is for different reasons my sleep pattern has been screwed for the last 8 weeks at least and Im also having to look for a another place cos now the ex has moved out I cant afford the one im in. So on that score I know how you feel and it isnt nice. But the sleep thing and home front will get better for you, its cliched but it just takes time for the natural rythms to return. No one can take away the loss you feel except know that we are all here if you need to talk.BTW what colours ur bike? I had a blue ZX9r it was loverly til i got stopped for speeding and had to get rid! "If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough." Michele 1 #10 April 21, 2003 It's been a rough week for me, as well, and yes, sleep is the first thing which is affected. When I get this bad for several days in a row, I cave in and take something to help. I am no use to anyone when I've not slept, and my job requires me to be up and around on a regular basis...Tylenol pm generally works, and when it doesn't, I have some prescription stuff I use sparingly. Another thing I've found helpful in the past (although not this week...) is writing it out. Getting whatever's going on outside of myself and onto paper (or a computer screen) can usually help make some sense - if not of the actual thing, it can make sense about how I feel about it. And once it's out, I can generally back down and let the thoughts go, and let sleep come. It's hard on lots of people right now, and my heart goes out to all... BBKid 0 #11 April 21, 2003 I suffer from periodical insomnia, and when I can get to sleep I frequently suffer from waking paralysis (conscious brain wakes up but body doesn't, so you can breathe and whisper, but not move - scary), so I know how hard it can be to get through the day afterwards. I know it's irresponsible to suggest it, but I never suffer these problems when I'm at college and can go for a few drinks with my friends in the evening, unlike when I'm at home with my teetotal parents. Therefore I'd suggest a couple of pints and some light-hearted banter with your pals, nothing likely to stress you out - alcohol is a suppressant after all! wmw999 2,589 #12 April 21, 2003 Meditation helps me. Gotta practice some, but just emptying my mind (not always hard ) and letting myself exist seems to at least rest me, if not let sleep come creeping in. Wendy W. Vallerina 2 #13 April 21, 2003 I hear ya! I haven't slept through the night in a long time. I've gotten better, though. Last week, I had a night where I only woke up once! I tried everything. Working out early on, not eating right before bed, drinking milk an hour or two before bed, not having much caffeine. I just think that doing all of those things has no effect on stress-induced insomnia. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

BBKid 0 #16 April 21, 2003 When it happens five nights a week you get used to it, unfortunately. You just have to learn how to jerk yourself awake, as it were! Nick --------------------------- "I've pierced my foot on a spike!!!"

BBKid 0 #19 April 21, 2003 Making dreams do what you want is a completely different thing - to do with a far deeper level of sleep. I always thought sleep paralysis was just the body's way of keeping yourself safe, and the waking bit was an abnormality, but I'll trust other opinions on this. I would advise against sudden head movements, as they can be too exaggerated when you break out, and can then hit something hard. I once kicked myself out of bed because I was twitching my leg so hard - if that had been my head... Nick --------------------------- "I've pierced my foot on a spike!!!" NoShitThereIWas 0 #21 April 21, 2003 OMG, I am so happy I read this thread because there were a couple times that this had happened to me and I was a bit concerned for my sanity. I am wondering if it is the same thing as others have experienced ... I would be asleep and in my dream almost feel like my soul was separating or floating out of my body; but my body was so relaxed that it almost felt paralyzed, like I could not move anything and out of control. Part of my psyche just wanted to roll with it since it was an almost cool feeling and the other part of was scared to death that I wouldn't be able to come back. So this has happened to other people too? It has happened to me about 3 times in my life and each time was scary. I wondered if I let myself just go would I ever come back?Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say."
