Man bites dog... poor dog. :-)

Out of all the dogs you could pick to bite, I think it's pretty poor judgement to bite this one ...

NEW YORK (Reuters) -- The world turned upside down in Syracuse, New York, Saturday night -- at least for one drunken bar patron and an unlucky police dog.

After being thrown out of a bar, Paul Russell Jr., 33, bit Renny, a 3-year-old German shepherd, according to a report in Syracuse's Post-Standard newspaper.

The rare "Man Bites Dog" incident happened when Renny and his police handler were sent to investigate a disturbance after Russell was ejected by bouncers, the newspaper reported Monday.

Russell was on the sidewalk and bleeding from the head when he grabbed the dog by the throat and started choking it and biting it on the neck, police told the paper.

Officer William Foster reportedly punched Russell twice in the face before he released the dog.

Police charged Russell with injuring a police animal, resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration.

Russell told the newspaper he was drunk and did not think he bit the dog. He said he had a broken nose and two black eyes. "I don't really remember," he said. "I was pretty drunk."

Russell was treated at the hospital and spent the night in jail.

I used to train those kinda police dogs. More than likely the dog was in a deep bite on the guy (usually an arm). They are trained to hold that bite NO MATTER WHAT. So, the dog is at a bit of a disadvantage if the guy is drunk, has a large, snarling animal with big long fangs sunk into his arm AND he still has the thought to bite/hit the dog back...

I woulda called my dog out and hosed the drunk down with mace.

No, it's just that as coincidence I was discussing eating a dog with a certain young lady earlier today. Her's is a Chinese breed. Think about nice grilled dog skewers in a pleasant sweet and sour glaze. Bow wow!

if a dog attacks me and sinks its teeth into my arm i dont care if its a police dog or lassie, im drawing my blade and killing it on the spot. top o the food chain. sorry. of course i also know better than to get drunk and pick a fight with a police dog in the first place.....if the dog started it, the dog dies. if the guy started it, hes just plain stupid and deserves what he gets. 2 thumbs up to the dog for dedication to duty. hope he at least got a biscuit and a good brushdown afterwards.
