My AFF

Recommended Posts

Well-the weather this weekend was finally good enough for me to do some AFF jumps. I did jump #1 yesterday. It went really well. I was so nervous in the plane. I could barely walk to the door because my legs were so wobbly. I thought about riding down with the plane. I knew that if I did this that the chances of me getting back on a plane to skydive were pretty small. So, I took a deep breath, and told myself to calm down and that I could do it!! Once I exited I was so much more relaxed. Under canopy - which was what I was most fearful of-I was much more relaxed that I thought that I would be.
Today I did AFF jumps #2 and #3. They went well. I was not as altitude aware on jump 2 as I was on jump one. I actually thought that I was lower than I was. The landing for jump 2 was a little hard (I did a little bit of a somersault instead of a PLF).
Coming in for the landing for jump 3 I was a little nervous. But, I had little assistance from the guy on radio and it was very smooth.
Overall - I had an excellant time and can't wait to go again. I am so sore right now but I feel great.
I will post some pictures when I get them back from - hopefully tomorrow!!!

Woo hoo!! Three levels in a weekend; that's awesome. Congrats!

Feels good to have a couple of parachutes on your back instead of a tandem instructor doesn't it?

There are a few things you can do to reduce the soreness next time. Be sure to stretch on the mornings you're jumping. Eat - and for maximum energy it's best if you eat small healthy "snacks" throughout the day rather than sit down to a big meal. And most importantly - hydrate. Drink before you get thirsty, and avoid caffeine (coffee and soft drinks).

I also take a couple of anti-inflammatories in the morning before a day of jumping. Seems to help.

Why yes it does. That student gear is heavy though. But, it was definitly awesome. I had really great instructors this weekend.
I am so tired right now. I just can't sleep though. Too busy watching my videos.

Jess,

That's awesome! You'll be watching those videos for a very long time, and it keeps getting better. I still go back and look at my old tapes. Since I'm sleepless in SoCal, I'll probably watch this weekend's videos!B|

Keep up the good work!

Congratulations! Hope your friends don't get tired of hearing about it. :D

It is tough to face that fear and step out the door, but you did it. You'll never be able to explain it to non-skydivers. Look down and trust yourself. It makes you stronger as a person. Is there anything that you cannot do now? Yeah baby!

On the weights thing, my friend weighs 110 and wears 17 lbs of weight on every jump. With the rig and lead, she can hardly walk, but she flies like the world class skydiver that she is. I guess it is worth it. B|

Fine, don't bother to tell me how it went before everyone else!:P

Seriously though, that bloody amazing my friend - I'm heading back to Durham on Wednesday and we have a new(ish) Let to get the experienced jumpers in the air, so it'll just be little old me in the 182.

Since I can get to my DZ four times a week (exams allowing), let's have a race to the A! Loser buys beer (and airfare!)

Thanks everyone!! I plan to do more jumps on the weekends as the weather allows. Hopefully next weekend will be as nice weather wise as this one was. Well, here are a few pictures from AFF level 1.
