KenKnight 0 #26 April 23, 2003 IMHO we in Georgia should just run up a white flag and forget about it. We have wasted so much time, energy and money on this issue that could have been put to many better uses. For a symbol that should promote unity and pride in our state, the flag (no matter which one is flying) is not likely to do either._______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
mouth 0 #27 April 24, 2003 I have never thought of the old flag as showing racism but more as a symbol of the fact that GA has moved on. It is more a symbol to say here is where we were, and here is where we are now. Personally I don't care what flag GA has. It is just a piece of cloth. If that is all the legislature has to do they can vote me a pay raise and go home early. -- Hot Mama At least you know where you stand even if it is in a pile of shit. skydiverbrian 0 #29 April 24, 2003 Georgia is a weird place. Of all the things to be concerned about, they're worrying about the confederate flag. Of course, this is the same state that has Stone Mountain, a state park dedicated to the confederate forces in the war. There's even a plaque at the entrance that tries to convince readers why confederate soldiers are better than any other: they weren't fighting for money, or land, or food - they were fighting to maintain their way of life. (No mention of how medevial and backwoods their way of life was). In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal
Ducky 0 #30 April 24, 2003 An Atlanta resident here... Gun toating redneck???? Not quite, last i checked ATL was quite metropolitan. As for Gun, YES several. Toating??? nope, but I do carry concealed with a permit. Anyways...... I have no strong emotional feeling for any of our state flags. Though recent debates and arguments have gotten me interested. I think the entertainment value alone is priceless. I have to side with anything that has the Rebel flag on it just to piss off the morons who argue against it. See they are not morons for their feelings or opinions, rather the way the go about explaing them. Imean for creeps sake can't people find one intelligent spokesperson for their cause?????? I recently had a guy approach me at a gas station trying to hutle some change out of me. When i ignored/refused his line was>>> "don't you feel like ta owe a brother a penny or 2 for what your garndaddys did to mine?" WTF????? I couldn't help but laugh in his face. Does this make me racists?? Perhaps if you consider utter f*ckin idiots a race! kwakSometimes your the bug, sometimes your the windshield. Sometimes your the hammer sometimes your the nail. Question is Hun, Do you wanna get hammered or do you wanna get nailed?????
happythoughts 0 #31 April 24, 2003 QuoteWe have wasted so much time, energy and money on this issue that could have been put to many better uses. The time isn't wasted from their standpoint. There are people whose only agenda is raising money. No political change is sought, only money. Often, it is something along the line of "hello, we are in the papers a lot, donate money so that we can fight "
Amazon 7 #32 April 24, 2003 I never did get the whole idea of hating the Confederate flag because it was a symbol of slavery...Most of the slaves were the losers in tribal warfare and enslavement by other Africans. Am I as a Scottish/Irish/Native American descendant supposed to hate the British flag because of the oppression and slavery they foisted on us.. Or should we hate the Norse( Norwegians, Swedish, Danes) for their pillaging and enslaving those of the British Isles..Or that most of Europeans and people of the Medeterranean.. should they hate the Italians for thier enslavement by the Romans???? On and on I could go... Many people have been enslaved thru out history.... its a new age.... its time to treat all people as just that.. people... I for one do not care to be discriminated against by something my ancestors did, whether it was 2 centuries ago or what was done to mine 3 centuries ago or 2 millenia ago. We have one small planet.. we all live on it together. The point is those times have past.. there is a new future where Hatred needs to be put aside.... ON ALL SIDES.
