Which flag do YOU like?

Georgia's flag history is quite interesting, but I figured I would keep the poll to the more "recent" 20th century evolution.

The 1920-56 flag is the basis for the "new" proposition, but the new flag has 13 stars around the state seal, and "In God We Trust" along the center bar of the body of the flag.

The "rebel" flag which has flown most of the 20th century no longer has a realistic chance in today's political environment, though the historical significance is an important debate.

The current flag has got to go IMO.

Personally, I'm for the new flag, change can be good, and Georgia needs it. This issue wasn't getting a huge amount of press when I was living in Atlanta, but I could still feel the cultural and social pressures abound. Yikes! ..

i havent compare the images show to any state flags than those i have lived under, but they all seem to friggin busy. if you gonna put state seal on the flag, just make it a license plate. if it was a world where the union jack wasnt so offensive, i think its design is cool, but hey, they lost, we won, get over it and show some creativity. lmao.

The Union Jack is the British flag, and the one that you're seein' in the Georgia post is a Confederate flag...

Here goes a major debate right now. I live in GA and work in a public school. I think change is good if it is for the right reason; however, I think the legislature passed the current flag through without a vote of the populace and it wasn't right. The confederate flag is flown here in rural GA almost as much as the Stars and Stripes. We are not always proud of the outcomes of actions from our past but the fact is they will always be there. Slavery is a part of our past, and there is nothing you can do to erase it. Change the flag and it is still there. I feel those who "think" they are oppressed should worry more about changing attitudes rather than changing the damn flag.

Just my opinion and I'm on a roll today.

BTW...Yes, I fly a confederate flag. No, I have never owned slaves. My family preferred to run alcohol during the depression.

I was born and raised in GA and I could care less what flag we fly. I think the post 1956 flag looks the best, but it is just a flag after all. I would be surprised to see a modified pre 1956 flag pass with "In God We Trust" on it. I am a Christian and this is the Bible belt, but I don't think the ACLU would let that one go without a huge fight, In case it might offend anyone who does not believe in God. Go with the pre-1956 flag unaltered and be done with it. Or maybe we could just fight over it a while longer. After all, I'm sure there is nothing more pressing for the state of GA than what the flag looks like.

I had the "pleasure" of hearing what that flag means to many people in the south. The Confederation is dead, racism should be dead. Why keep a flag that reminds people of such an awful time in our country? I think they should let people vote on there flag, but not allow that flag to offend most of the people in the U.S. let alone disgrace our country to the world.

It means nothing to me (I was raised in New England), and I don't disagree with you. However racism was around long before, and unfortunately, will be long after this flag issue is settled. I don't believe the 53-01 flag promotes racism. I saw it more as a simple general symbol of the south, whose history does include a lot of massive change and defiance (which is what I think the design was intended for) more in line with the attempts to break away from the union.

Remember, the civil war was not about slavery or racism. This flag was not the state flag before, during or immediately after the civil war.

The confederacy is dead. Do you think racism is dead? I agree, I think it should be dead (and in my mind it is) too. But from my perspective (and it's not uneducated) from living in Florida, Georgia doing business in NC, SC and having relatives there too, racism is now much more of a two-way street than it was in 1953. But the flag is different. ?

I agree with your last statment. It is just so sad that people can't get along. God, I sound like a commercial! Racism is not just in the south either. I hear the N word at Perris all the time. Usually with the older, shall we say more seasoned jumpers. I just think we should get rid of anything that brings up those times in our past. Not to hide from it but to move past it. Racism = Ignorance.
