Guest #27 September 17, 2002 Part of the reason Michel chose Saskatoon is because there's an Environment Canada scientific balloon launch facility there, run by a contract company to the Canadian Government. The crew there are old hands at launching big honkin' balloons like Michel's, but Dale (the lead balloon launch tech) told me on Saturday that Fournier's is twice the size of the ones they normally fly, so they have to be extra careful."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." kingbunky 3 #28 September 17, 2002 i should have remembered that... many moons ago (late 80's) i was driving for trimac and a couple of times i ran from edmonton to bushton kansas to load helium, and i had to return via saskatoon to deliver helium to that site!"Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." Guest #31 September 18, 2002 Yes, indeed you did. My article on the WFFC is on the front page of this month's issue of Skydiving Magazine. Also, look for an in-depth article on Michel Fournier and Le Grand Sout in next month's issue. mh"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." lazybloke 0 #34 September 18, 2002 I have a bit of a concern about Le Grand Saut (note spelling of jump in french = saut not sout) after looking at the pics on their website (www.legrandsaut.orrg) of the rig being used. The pic isn't very big, but it looks like an old Javelin, which isn't in itself bad, but the riser sticking miles out of the pack does. Surely at Mach 1.5 you don't want a premature opening, I think it might hurt a little.
Guest #35 September 18, 2002 You're right about the spelling - it should be "Saut", not "Sout". French is not my first language, and I got so used to pronouncing it like "soht" while in Saskatoon that I unconsciously began spelling it that way. Thanks for pointing it out to me. mh"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
encinoadam 0 #36 April 9, 2003 Any update on this? Isn't the jump supposed to happen this month in Saskatchewan??
murrays 0 #37 April 9, 2003 The latest we hear in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is that Michel Fournier and crew will be back late this month/early May to await favourable conditions.-- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
Guest #38 April 9, 2003 Next month - If I get anything, I'll post it here."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
encinoadam 0 #39 April 24, 2003 So, I probably sound like a broken record here... but any news on the jump?? I've been waiting for this for a really long time.

I'm going to contact the manager of the balloon facility at the end of this week, to see if he's heard from Fournier's crew. While I'm at it, I'll probably contact some of Fournier's Anglophone staff."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
