need to buy a new car

Recommended Posts

ok, so the jeep has pretty much been put to non road use from now on, so im faced with the task of getting a new small car.
im really not picky as cars dont mean jack shit to me, theyre just a way around town, (trucks on the other hand:$)

so far ive been looking at the chevy cavalier, the pontiac sunfire, toyota corrolla, hundai tiburon, or the civic

really all i want is good mileage, reliability, and a decent cd player.

so what do you people who have those listed cars think of them, or do you know of any other similar cars that would be a better buy?

Two words for you: Honda Civic

Do not, under any circumstances buy a Chevy Cavalier, Pontiac Sunfire.

If the Civic doesn't do it for you, then the Toyota Corolla as a runner up and the Hyundai third.

Don't take my word for it, go to www.edmunds.com and see for yourself.

I like my Cavalier well enough. It's an '01, has the "sport package": CD, better speakers, and a spoiler. Power nothing.

But that doesn't really matter because you aren't me. Test drive. Test drive. Test drive. Don't listen to anybody who tells you Chevy's suck, "Fix Or Repair Daily" of whatever. Make your own decision.

My parents drive a 98 Toyota Corolla and the car is great for getting around, espicially if you do a lot of city driving. The only problem I have with a car of that size is that it lacks the creature comforts that can be found on a slightly larger used car for the same price.

Just so you know, her car is running at 110,000 Km ( Canada) and it still runs like new. I can drive the car a little aggresively and still only put in 25 bucks every 10 days. Great gas mileage as far as Canada is concerned.

If Getting around is your biggest concern then get the imports.

If you want a little more comfort then get something used and save the money for jump tickets.

Dunno how it ranks, but I adore my '96 Jetta. Stick shift, handles very well, looks good, has a lot of room, and a good cd player. Maintenence wise, it is very undemanding (which is really good)...I've put nearly 50K miles on it, and changed the oil regularly (well, regularly for me), and that has been all. Not even a brake job or any hoses/belts replaced...and I bought it used just about 3 years ago...it now has something like 85K miles on it...mileage is great, and interior comfort is great.

I love it, simply love it.

I'm looking at a Civic Coupe EX myself... any one got anything to say about them?

Two words for you: Buy it. B|

Had an 81 Civic sedan for five years (took to 190K miles), a 93 Civic Si for seven (155K miles) followed by a 2000 Acura Integra (Civic platform) now three years old (70K+ mi.).

Change the oil every 3-5K and change out the water pump and belts at 90K and you're golden. No sh*t.B|

Go with the Honda over the other cars. I'm sorry, but I am partial to foreign cars, which can get a girl in trouble! Seriously though, the Corolla is a cheapy Toyota, IMO..even though I love Toyotas as well but they produce much better trucks than economy cars. I bought a brand new Civic when I graduated from school, and it was great other than being an automatic. Needless to say within a year I traded it for an Acura (5 speed :) ), which is another Honda...so now at 165,000 miles it is still just as strong! A well cared for Honda will go forever, get great gas mileage and still have a better resale value over the other cars.
