riddler 0 #1 April 24, 2003 I was going to make this a poll, but I realized there was more than just a handful of reasons to choose from OK - I admit that I don't actually hate Canadians. Most of the ones I've met are freaks, and I like freaks a lot, so I get along with them OK. They are generally good people. But I'll tell you one thing I hate about Canadians. Every time I talk to them about Canada, the first thing they say is always "it's like the US, only better." Then they proceed to go on about how their socialized medicine is better. Or that their two cultures (French and English) is way better than the hundreds that are in the US. Or that their hockey players that all play in the US are not originally from the US. Every time I hear a Canadian talk about how much better they are, I just want to scream "get oot of my hoose!" Now, I ask you - does anyone from the US say "it's like Egypt, only better", or "it's like Japan, only better"? No. Why would we? If you're comparing yourself to anyone, it implies you have some feeling that they are better, so just admit it and move on. Hope I'm not getting anyone too riled up. It's all in good fun Please feel free to post with what you hate most about Canadians, and let's all try to remember the "no personal attacks" rule. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. CanuckInUSA 0 #4 April 24, 2003 Can't we all get along? Oops ... who am I kidding here on Talk Back. There are many things that make Canada better than the USA just as there are many things that make the USA better. Ultimately we're talking about two societies which are extremely similar (probably more than any two other countries in the world). Now let's go skydive (which is better in the USA). Schroeder 0 #7 April 24, 2003 haha yes, we have 2 'cultures' here. French, and English. Everyone else, chinese, east indian, european, south american, or otherwise foreign are promptly put in the back of trucks upon arrival, and (under the cover of night) smuggled in and deposited in your country. Here, we're all about 'naturalization' (what a word...), so it's either assimilate, or al-see-ya-later. I personally, quite like the health care, no problems with it, they treat me when I need it, haven't let me down so far. Do I think it's better than the american system, as a guy with limited education on the way you folks do it down there, well, I dunno. Oh, and "implies you have some feeling that they are better", really, I don't think so buddy sounds like a developing inferiority complex there.... CanuckInUSA 0 #9 April 24, 2003 I actually visited Pacific Skydivers in Vancouver back in October of 2002 and met with riggerrob (not sure if he remembers me). But I didn't get to jump because Mother Nature had other plans that day. My comments about the jumping being better in the USA are in reference to the much longer season. I mean look at us here in CO, so far I've jumped every month in the nine short months I've been in the sport. There's no way I could have racked up my current jump numbers if I was still up north. CanuckInUSA 0 #14 April 24, 2003 Quote There's no way I could have racked up your jump numbers in Colorado! I think you must pack a heck of a lot quicker than me Not only that, but there were days this year that I was jumping while you were sitting next to the fire staying warm. Of course I'd jump in even colder weather if I could (I guess growing up in Canada has a way of freezing the brain and the senses), but I've learned that loads won't be going up when the temperatures drop below freezing here in CO. PhillyKev 0 #16 April 24, 2003 Because they're plague ridden. Although the Iraqi Information Minister did say it was safe to visit Toronto. The exact quote is, "Let me be clear. If it's safe to live in Toronto, it's safe to come to Toronto. I dare them to be here tomorrow,". craichead 0 #21 April 24, 2003 Quote Or that their two cultures (French and English) is way better than the hundreds that are in the US. Having just returned from Toronto, I was absolutely amazed at all the different cultures and colours that I saw walking through downtown. I live in Chicago where mostly everyone I see is pasty midwesterner white (AND I grew up in East Tennessee, I was one of three Asian students in my entire school). It was quite refreshing to see so many different skin tones (especially Asian faces--my people! ) there. Toronto is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world--over a 4 day weekend, I went to Chinatown (I'm SARS-free), Little Italy, Little Portugal, Greektown, and a bunch of other ethnic areas. Yeah, we have those in Chicago, too, but not to the extent that Toronto has them. Here's an interesting editorial from the Toronto Star on Canadian values: "We do have distinctive values" I think Canadians have a lot to be proud of, and I don't really mind when they say, "It's like the US, only better"...I tend to agree with them. -P__ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)

Magistr8 0 #25 April 25, 2003 I thought it was mandatory for all skydiving canadians to be born with a beer in hand and a hockey helmet on? As for the Jets, they were never very good but come playoff time. Let me just say that I have never seen any city more supportive of their teams.
