Michele 1 #2 April 23, 2003 Bump... Quote I'm planning on going as of now. I can't afford tickets - I've checked, and it just isn't feasible right now for me. Is there anyone who would be willing to meet Kevin there, and show support for the family? I know you would be welcome, and I know it would be appreciated. FliegendeWolf 0 #3 April 23, 2003 I think I'd like to go. Farmington Hills is a pretty quick drive for me. I think it might be good to have a dz.com presence there as well. Two immediate problems: 1) girlfriend is graduating and her parents are coming in town. I might be able to go to the viewing, but I doubt I could make the funeral service. 2) I would feel incredibly awkward being there, having never really met Holly in person (I know this is my problem and no real reason to not go...any advice on this? What to say, for example, to family and friends when they ask how I knew Holly?) Kevin: when were you planning on going?A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All

Plans as of now are to leave friday morning get there friday afternoon in time for the viewing (i am figuring 8 hours drive) and go to funeral on saturday. I haven't met her in person either but I promised her I would so I feel obligated to go, plus we talked on the phone all the time. Funerals suck, there is no good one man. Just being there introducing yourself "hi i'm _[insert name here]__ i never got to meet holly but I knew her through dropzone.com.. i'm truely sorry for your loss she is already missed throughout the skydiving community" would mean a lot to the family. Michele 1 #5 April 23, 2003 How wonderful are you? I think if you could make it whenever you could, that would be so appreciated. As to what to say, just let them know you miss her and are sorry for their (and your) loss. If someone asks you if you knew her, you knew her here, right? You knew her love of the sky, her love of the freedom that is jumping, and you knew her smile...in my opinion, you knew her. I honestly don't think it matters, really, if you hadn't met her in the flesh...you've met her heart and spirit, you are grieving, and you are willing to support her family and friends. Thanks, Flieg... Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
CrazyIvan 0 #6 April 23, 2003 What if you also hand a list of all the people who in one way or another met her?, A Word document with the names and a nice header saying something like: 'Your friends at Dropzone.com' or something like that, I guess it will ease her family's pain seeing there is a bunch of people who have her in their hearts. Hol and I never met in person, only thru this board, if you decide to create such list, add my name to it.__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you. bbarnhouse 0 #7 April 23, 2003 Holly's family was provided with a cd yesterday with all of the writings and photographs this community posted on her memorial page. They were grateful and expressed how much easier all of the out pouring of love has made it for them. Holly's parents have discussed with me an ash dive in the fall here at Skydive Arizona. I will keep you informed. The memorial here in Arizona was beautiful, and now, all the heavens can bask in the light that is Holly. God we are all so lucky to have had such a gift.... Warm loving hugs to each and everyone of you. B~Squared

wmw999 2,589 #13 April 23, 2003 Just a note -- last year a friend's daughter died suddenly, and all kinds of people who had been touched in one way or another, or who just cared enough to come to the wake, let her know. It meant a lot, even from people who were second-hand friends. Don't be scared of going. Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

Stargate69 0 #17 April 24, 2003 I would like to take the time to thank everyone that loved and adored holly. She was my best friend for a long time my roommate. I spend all weekend with her family and helped them except what was happening. I would love to tell you all her family are some of the best people I know. They are all as genuine as she was. They had the opportunity to go to Eloy and Buckeye both. This was an emotional healing time that helped so much. For me going to the spot she landed was a wonderful way for me to except this. Her Family didn't blame skydiving for her death but celebrated her love for her sport. I have admired her love for skydiving, she was all about all of you. Peace P.S. Hol I love You Baby..... kevin922 0 #21 April 27, 2003 Well.. i just got back from Michigan.. (8 hours of driving).. the funeral was very touching. After reading his part during the service, one of holly's brothers ended with a fist in the air and a "chicks rule." I can't say enough good things about holly's parents and brothers/sister, they are some top notch people. LouDiamond put a pullup cord from my car in her casket.. a thin orange one, fairly new. We drove to tecumseh to do a memorial dive for holly (2 way birdman) and boy did she ever show up. We planned a normal exit Lou would be behind me I'd give the count out in go.. we hit on exit and I am assuming my foot or something else hit his reserve handle.. i immediately saw it flopping around, he didn't know anything was wrong but did see me frantically pointing at my handles.. he grabbed onto it and flew with one wing out and one in.. deployed at the given altitude and had no issues after that.. I commented to him when we landed "boy holly was with us on that load" .. we went off to the packing area and started packing, Lou came back with a thin orange fairly new pullup cord.. found on the ground. Coincidence? Blue skies holly - enjoyed jumping with you finally. Kevin
