This arrived yesterday:

Dear journalists and others interested in the Super Jump of Michel Fournier:

Press Communiqué April 26, 2003

A hitch has happened in the splendid machinery set up for the second Super Jump attempt from the stratosphere at 40,000 meters, which Michel Fournier had planned for the beginning of May in Saskatchewan, Canada.

The launch director has suffered severe heart problems. French medical authorities do not authorize him to travel or do his job in Canada. Michel Fournier has therefore made the difficult decision to postpone his May attempt and to push it back to the end of August or the beginning of September of this year.

Michel Fournier, accompanied by part of his French team --five key launch technicians -- went to Saskatoon on April 21 and will remain there until May 2 to recheck the site and review launch procedures with the Canadian team.

Michel Fournier states:

"The requisite safety measures cannot be maintained for an optimal launch in May, owing to the loss of the launch director. A delay is necessary since we cannot allow the slightest risk.

I thank the entire Canadian-French Super Jump team, which has given me years of unconditional support. I share with them the common disappointment at this postponement. My determination remains intact, and the team will be present at the end of August in Saskatchewan for the next attempt. I maintain my motto on the front of the capsule: 'He who dares, wins.'

The recent tragedy of the space shuttle Columbia, that cost the lives of 7 astronauts, reinforces my determination to prove that one can save human lives thanks to the equipment perfected for my jump. It remains for me to realize it, and this determines my continuing engagement and the goal of everyone on our team."
