akaGQ 0 #1 April 28, 2003 Ok Ive been conflicting my descisions lately and need some input. Ok basically Im planning on taking around $3000 with me to Rantoul this year so Ill have more than enough to jump on as well as being able to take friends from here and there up as well, however, the conflict is this. I also want to get a new container hence my problem. I hate making large descisions like these cause I want both but unfortunately at the moment finances will only allow me to choose one. So what would you choose? Any additional comments or input would be appreciated.- GQ ... it was the love of the air and sky and flying, the lure of adventure, the appreciation of beauty ... -Charles Lindberg

ECVZZ 0 #3 April 28, 2003 How old, and in what condition is your current container? G. Jones "I've never been quarantined. But the more I look around, the more I think it might not be a bad idea."
Gawain 0 #4 April 28, 2003 If it were me, I'd buy a container (and chutes to go with it). Then I'd cut in half the intervals of maintenance on the lines, the rigs. Granted, the reserves would mean an increase in ownership costs, but... ...anyway, that's what I would do.So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! akaGQ 0 #6 April 28, 2003 its an 89 J-3 the mid flap is faded but not really in terrible condition, the harness is pretty much brand new since the jumper that owned it before hand burned in in it so I had to have it replaced. Its not so much the condition of it but more or less the way it fits. Pain pretty much describes the feeling Im in when I get down on the ground and it doesnt really match my colors and the cypres becomes a door stop in about less than a year. Yeah I know most will probably say get the new container but I feel like Im obligated now in a sense due to making plans for the convention IE skygod letting me stay in his camper while Im there and the many others Ive promised to jump with once I got there. My problem is this Im too damn picky. - GQ ... it was the love of the air and sky and flying, the lure of adventure, the appreciation of beauty ... -Charles Lindberg
ECVZZ 0 #7 April 28, 2003 Sounds like it's time for a new rig! With some of the deals on containers these days, you could have a sweet container, and pick up a 2-3 year old Cypres for less than 2 grand, then maybe take an abbreviated trip to Rantoul on the remaining cash? If I were forced to choose between them, I'd get the rig, spend the extra cash on jumps, and contact my friends now and explain the situation to them...friends will understand! Good luck in whichever you choose! G. Jones "I've never been quarantined. But the more I look around, the more I think it might not be a bad idea." skymama 37 #8 April 28, 2003 Definitely the container, but then I'm one of those practical old people, so don't listen to me. wmw999 2,586 #11 April 28, 2003 Get the container. You could look for a good deal on something used that actually fits, or just go ahead and get something new with a Cypres. You'll still have money left over for jumps unless it's got the gold-plated hardware. Then you can run up your cell phone bill calling folks at Rantoul. Deleted 0 #12 April 28, 2003 Sounds like you need new gear. It is a buyers market right now. You can get a SWEET deal for cheap, as stated earlier. And still be able to go and jump. Your friends are just that, friends. On top of that....they are also skydivers. They know how it is.Smoke
sunman 0 #13 April 28, 2003 3 grand for wffc? Are you planning on jumping ONLY out of specialty aircraft and drinking champagne every night? I did Rantoul last year for less than a grand and had an awesome time. That's including jumps from the bi-plane, helo, and C-130. Buy a decent used container that fits (you'll probably be downsizing soon, that's why I wouldn't buy anything new just yet), get a cypres and go to Rantoul with whatever you have left. Why would you want to do the wffc in gear that sucks? And don't forget, you can always sell that old container, even if only for a few hundred bucks. fudd 0 #14 April 28, 2003 What use is a brand new container if you don't have the money to jump. Set aside half of the money as savings for a new container, and jump for the rest of the money at wffc-03. Jumping is more important than cool gear! There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
akaGQ 0 #15 April 28, 2003 I agree but heres my final delima. Financially it will take me another month to be able to pay off one loan and then Ill be able to get another loan in order to come to the 3 grand but I was looking at a V3 to get with all the bells and whistles of course getting a new reserve isnt really a biggie since its never had a ride and I pretty much have a new to me canopy that Ive only got maybe 30 jumps on so downsizing in the near future is out of the question... but I agree what good is a new container and nothing to jump on but now Ive also gotten word from skygod that theres not gonna be enuf room for me to crash with him which means the aid of a tent and I hate sleeping on the ground but whatever. So if I was to arrive 2-3 days after it got started where the hell would I be able to set up camp I mean hell itd be pretty much packed by then wouldnt it? - GQ ... it was the love of the air and sky and flying, the lure of adventure, the appreciation of beauty ... -Charles Lindberg
Raefordite 0 #16 April 28, 2003 Get the container. It will it last longer than Rantoul. Your container will still be around when you make that last loan payment. Plus if you manage to spend $3000 at Rantoul, you most likely won't remember anything but a hangover each morning from the expensive champagne you drink. akaGQ 0 #17 April 29, 2003 Ok well I think Im gonna go with the container idea now and perhaps take a 3 or 4 days vacation at the same time and see some friends... Theres a number of things now, my car is crapping out on me so I dont wanna get stranded between georgia and illinois with noone but farmers to turn to 2 Sleeping on the ground in my tent for 9 nights wont make me feel any better and well the poll tells all hehehe so I guess Ill have to wait around another year but hey now worries ya know by next year Ill have twice as many jumps and be twice as good as I am now...Thanx - GQ ... it was the love of the air and sky and flying, the lure of adventure, the appreciation of beauty ... -Charles Lindberg
