Push 0 #1 April 28, 2003 Among all of the terrible things happening in our corner of the kitchen, I thought it would be nice to share my success story. Finally, after more than half a year and 30 jumps (weather was bad all of autumn, we're in Canada), I got my self supervision clearance on Friday. Still working on that first Solo CoP, but not a student anymore. So many firsts: 1. Non-student jump 2. High jump 3. BOC/TAS deployment (students use ripcord/SOS) 4. Video of me in freefall 5. Off DZ landing 6. Intentionally unstable exit 7. Jump on unsupervised packjob (it opened). 8. First time tracking Probably more stuff I forgot. My good friend got his first freefall on Sunday, on a chute I packed. He was on radio guidance, and his radio instructor took out the windsock on the landing area with him. I went out after him, let me tell you, it looked funny from the landing pattern. Oh, and, on a final note, hypothetically, if you're climbing out with your back to the prop in a C182, don't slip on the step. You will, hypothetically, end up with the door frame between your legs, and the wind will, hypothetically, slam your crotch into the door frame. That will, hypothetically, hurt like hell -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. All you have to do is relax while plummetting at 120 mph from 10,000' with nothing but some nylon and webbing to save you.
CanuckInUSA 0 #2 April 28, 2003 Welcome to the world of solo skydives. It only gets more fun what with the constant new experiences we all go through and the things we will learn from them. Be safe ... but have fun. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

SkyDekker 1,465 #4 April 28, 2003 Hi Push, congratulations. Make sure you get it all signed off on and sent in so you can at least visit other drop zones and jump by yourself. I have heard some dropzones try and persuade students from not sending in their info for solo clearance so they have to keep going back to their dropzone. Not sure if I explained that correctly, but hope you understand what I mean....

I've got only one jump left to do and then the paperwork is off. I've got a work deal set up with this dropzone for free jumps, but I'm going to visit Burnaby one day for sure. Did you guys get that Otter yet? Cajun, I'm trying a sitting exit next Not sure what I want to do just yet, but we've got a freeflying school here. It took me a second to figure out why you would post that, but then I saw where you worked Ohh and btw, from Toronto it is NOT a shorter commute...... Push 0 #13 April 29, 2003 Oh, I've got DZs fighting over me Yeah, it's not that big a difference from Toronto. How big is that Otter? Remster 30 #14 April 29, 2003 Quote How big is that Otter? I'm still a bit iffy on the different kinds of Otters. Otter snob! Is any type of an otter gonna be too small? Its a Twin Otter, its close to you, its a no brainer to at least give it a try! lol By the way, the Atmosphair DZ close to Quebec City is getting a full time King Air this year too. Its being fitted with a lexan door as we speak. Should fly there mid-JuneRemster

SkyDekker 1,465 #16 April 29, 2003 great year for canadian dzs and turbine aircraft. I just hope we can keep it going. Ohh, and I certianly do not represent any dz. I happily jump at both dunnville and skydive burnaby. But Burnaby is closer to my house. Plus I really do like the Otter over a King Air when given a choice. lurch 0 #21 April 29, 2003 OOF. Did you, hypothetically, fall off the aircraft clutching your hypothetical crotch or did you manage to stay in the plane, curl up wait for the pain to die down and ask for a go-around, hypothetically? Push 0 #22 April 29, 2003 There was a burst of dull pain, but I'm guessing that my legstrap went between the door frame and the family jewels so the impact was somewhat cushioned. I realized I can't fall out like that cause I'll hit the step, tried again, and had a bit of a long spot. Anyway, not pleasant. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. Push 0 #23 April 29, 2003 Already working on that. A student asked if you get sucked out when the door opens, so I told him that after the door opens the pressure drops, everyone farts, and the farts shoot him out of the plane.
