ladyskydiver 0 #1 April 28, 2003 Had to vent. Trying to get a job in another state is almost like trying to get a job in another country! Yesh! It's not like I'm asking for relocation expenses - I'm going to move myself. But a lot of the job postings are stating "Local candidates only." And, if they don't state that, you're lucky to even get an automated response saying they received your resume. Ok...venting done. Thanks for listening. Sigh...back to job searching.Life is short! suz 0 #2 April 28, 2003 Hey I can relate to that!!!! have you tried pizza delivering????? it's such a dream job and all! I personally love it!!! you make so much money! (Gotta love the sarcasm.....) Is there room in your boat for me? Chin up LSD, you'll find one....it's the total opposite here. It's easier to get a job elsewhere in Australia then in this city....but I do live in a small city! Don't bother me, I'm living happily ever after

ladyskydiver 0 #9 April 28, 2003 I thought about pizza delivering but remember how much I ended up hating the food in a restaurant when I was working in one. I like pizza too much to do that for myself. Good luck, Suz! Hopefully, you'll find something soon as well that pays a lot better than pizza delivering. Life is short! Break the rules! BETO74 0 #11 April 28, 2003 Try coming from another country, have an accent and Skydive.I came to the U.S three years ago with my Bachelor and savings. I had no credit history or any Idea of the job market out there. Spended my savings in a year looking for jobs were I was overqualified but I needed the experience. I even had to stop skydiving for 9 months and sell my equipment. You think jumping out a plane is scary? try going for an job enterview in a Totally different Country totally different culture and everything!!!. Two years ago got an OK job, bought a new equipment, truck, house and now a new baby Boston Terrier (Delilah). Don't give up I used to apply 20 jobs at day thru internet, I used to collect those automatic letter you're talking about until there were too many. Shoot the target many times, one will hit close to what you want. Same philisophy apply to emergencies jump a lot increase the chances of having a mal eventually. Blue ones to you!! http://web.mac.com/ac057a/iWeb/AC057A/H0M3.html
BETO74 0 #12 April 28, 2003 Local candidates only means they don't want to pay re-location (for you to move there and work) find a friend that lives around ven the local dropzone you will find friend willing to put their address as were you live, tell them you were planning to move there anyway. Hope helps http://web.mac.com/ac057a/iWeb/AC057A/H0M3.html
ladyskydiver 0 #13 April 28, 2003 I'm really impressed with those people who do come from another country and try out the job market here and the new culture, etc. My hat is off to them (and you) for having the courage to do that. (Oh...and for the record, I like accents. ) Thanks! I won't give up...not in my personality. Just at times, it's pretty frustrating. Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! Kiss slowly! lawrocket 3 #14 April 28, 2003 I spent six months looking for work until I finally got a job. It really does horrible things to the ego. I remember how excited I was when I finally got a few rejection letters. At least I knew that I was being considered. Keep the head up and just keep on trying and plugging away, and don't let them know it gets you down. My wife is hotter than your wife.
Emmie 0 #15 April 28, 2003 Hi, I'm going through the exact same thing right now, living in Massachussetts, and trying to find a job in Florida for when I move there. I found that if you send a cover letter with your resume, and mention somehow that you are going to be in the area to let them know that they don't necessarily have to pay for relocation helps. Good luck.
fudd 0 #16 April 28, 2003 When seeking a new job, I've found that kvality is better than quantety. If you apply for 400 jobs it will shine through. To get a job I've found these key elements to work nice: - Call and talk to them. If you are so lucky to know someone who works/worked there, mention it. Before you call do some research about the company. Find out where their office is, HQ, number of employees, key business areas and so. - Do whatever it takes to get to an interview. It's not negative to be a little pushy. If you live out of town, call and say you will be in the area a day, and ask for 5 minutes to present yourself. - Figure out what you will answer to standard questions like: "What are you good at", "What are you not so good at?", "How do you deal with stress?". What you answer to these questions is not so important as how you answer them. I once got asked in a job interview: -"What do you think is the best part of a work day" -"Lunch!" The interviewer laughed, and had to agree...and I got the job Just some thoughts&tips... There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't. haylee 0 #17 April 28, 2003 I know exactly what you mean. I'm looking for a new job now too! My wonderful boss () told me last week that her funding wasn't being renewed this year. Then she tells me that she's been meaning to let me know this for about 6 weeks - she just kept forgetting! Fortunately, there was a job fair in my field this weekend that I was able to attend Good luck in your search! Hopefully we'll both find jobs soon - before all the new graduates get out in the job market... Haylee
rhino 0 #18 April 28, 2003 All you do it lie.. Say you live where you want to go. And when they call say you are out of town for a couple of weeks. When you get back is when you schedule the interview for..
ladyskydiver 0 #19 April 28, 2003 Thanks for that suggestion. I have permission to use a couple of people's addresses on my resume but haven't 'cause I felt that I was being dishonest by saying I lived where I didn't. Now that I've got a way around the "Can you come in for an interview tomorrow?" question, I'm going to make sure that I change my address on my resume.Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! SkyDekker 1,465 #20 April 28, 2003 Cora, good luck with finding a new job. It is hard to move, but you might consider moving without a job and then finding one in your new surroundings. That is what I did when I moved continents. Even sold used cars for a while
ladyskydiver 0 #21 April 28, 2003 Thanks! Appreciate it. I actually did make that decision. I'd, of course, prefer to have a job before moving, but either way, I'm outta here! I actually have considered going back to waitressing or bartending to make cash until I get a job doing what I'd like so don't feel to bad about being a used car salesperson for a bit.Life is short! Jessica 0 #22 April 28, 2003 There are worse jobs than waiting tables. The money's not bad, it keeps you in shape, and guys for some reason love a girl in an apron. I did it through most of college, and some days I miss it. Good luck!Skydiving is for cool people only
Stacy 0 #23 April 28, 2003 i don't miss it at all. of course, i was the stupid waitress from hell. or maybe i was fine until a bunch of skydivers found out where i worked and crashed hte place one night....
