happythoughts 0 #1 April 29, 2003 Trying out something new. I go to Lifestyles gym. They offer a "YogaFit" class. Lots of stretching and some very good exercise. It is a one-hour class and just kicks my butt. I just started it last week and it is excellent. I didn't want the meditation aspect, just the flexibility/strength stuff. I lift some machine weights and some free weights. The advantage of free weights is that you use a wider variety of muscles to stabilize the weight. Machines isolate too much sometimes. The classes seem to work a lot of knee/back/leg muscles that I don't target enough.
misskriss 0 #2 April 29, 2003 Yoga is incredible....you may not go for the meditation aspects, but your mind will definitely benefit along with your body. I taught aerobics for a bit and we had a power yoga class. People loved it. Pilates is another good one that will stretch you and strengthen your muscles at the same time.. My older sister has some injuries from being a nurse and catching a falling, heavy patient. She does the Pilates stuff. It was recommended by her therapist and works well for her.
