smiles 0 #1 May 5, 2003 I found this info interesting (never heard of "corn plastics") before I read it........ Corn Plastics Anything that can be made from a barrel of crude oil can be made from a kernel of corn- - It takes about a month for plastic bags made from corn to degrade in a compost while a similar oil-based plastic bag could take centuries to decompose. - It is spun into fabrics for the "Ingeo" brand of clothing & blankets which are manufactured from "ingredients from the earth." - Coca-Cola Co. used 500,000 cups made from corn plastics at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Instead of creating a large trash problem, used cups were simply composted and quickly turned into dirt..............back to nature in 40 days. The biggest demand for corn plastics has been overseas, including in Taiwan, where packing is developed for the many products the country exports to the United States. Taiwan bans petroleum-based plastic shopping bags and disposable plastic tableware.
