rhino 0 #26 April 30, 2003 Sounds like the UN is full of hot air.. Where is the other side of the coin? A reason must exist for Israel doing these things? Where are the UN resolutions against the Palestinians, Seria? Just wondering... Sounds like tunnel vision to me.
Gawain 0 #27 April 30, 2003 QuoteQuoteQuoteI feel the Un is the one to target on this one. Thier unwillingness to enforce 1441. You mean enforce it when we wanted it enforced or is Isreal up to snuff with all the UN resolutions? If not then how come we haven't been hounding the UN to inspect their weapons Probably because then the UN will find their nukes and other weapons and documents showing that we supplied them with them (much like the documents found in Iraq related to France). You'll want to read up on history, it was France that supplied Israel with its first nuclear reactor. http://www.fas.org/nuke/guide/israel/nuke/index.html Here's one quote from that report: "Trouble arose in May 1960, when France began to pressure Israel to make the project public and to submit to international inspections of the site, threatening to withhold the reactor fuel unless they did. President de Gaulle was concerned that the inevitable scandal following any revelations about French assistance with the project, especially the chemical reprocessing plant, would have negative repercussions for France's international position, already on shaky ground because of its war in Algeria."So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! You have mentioned earlier in this thread that "we have the right to protect our country and the coutries of our friends" Truly a wonderful and wise statement. I would like to adivese you on a couple of facts: 1. I just found out from you that Iraq is the 51st state. Because it would have to be if we are protecting our country. 2. There is no such thing as friendin politics. There are temporary pollitical alliances. Mutual interests. Millitary alliances perhaps, but there are NOfriends in politics. On the international, national, state or county level. Did you ever have a friend at work who did not try to FUCK you? I bet you ass still hurts jraf Me Jungleman! Me have large Babalui. FallRate 0 #33 April 30, 2003 Quote Resolution 487: " . . . 'strongly condemns' Israel for its attack on Iraq's nuclear facility". I wasn't talking about power plants. If you read the report, Israel's program was almost completely in-house. However, you can't have a nuclear program without a nuclear reactor. Early attempts surveying the Negev dessert in the 1940s-50s yielded little. Provide a reactor, and a bunch of guys that can do complex math and physics, and you don't need a teacher. Remember, DPRKs main "processing" plant is a nuclear reactor. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! falxori 0 #40 May 1, 2003 your post very much proves the opposite of your point. the way it is built and operates, the UN is simply not and can't be a relevant nor fair judge of things. 21 members of the UN are Arab countries, and at least 52 members represent Islamic countries. starting with a few simple facts: -The Arab nations are represented by 21 separate countries, israel is 1. -Of the 189 member nations , 188 may be elected to serve on the powerful Security Council, guess who can't.... and while: -Head of Human Rights commission: Lybia -Head of Disarmament: Iraq (recently) -a member if the security council : Syria the UN seems like a joke... here are some statistics from 1946-1990: Security Council: 175 Total Resolutions 74 Neutral 4 Against the perceived interests of an Arab state or body 97 Against Israel General Assembly: Cumulative Number of Votes cast with/for Israel: 7,938. Cumulative Number of Votes cast against Israel: 55,642 How about we take a look at the Human rights commission (currently headed by lybia..) *Israel has been the only state subject to an entire agenda item every year. *The Commission on Human Rights has spent more time on Israel than any other country. The Commission spent two days criticizing Israel and less than two hours on AIDS *While 11 percent of its total substantive meeting has been on Israel alone, 24 percent of its time has been spent on all other UN states combined. *27 percent of its country- specific resolutions critical of a state have been on Israel alone. The real double standards? No resolution in the history of the commission has ever been passed on states such as Syria, China, Saudi Arabia or Zimbabwe. other UN contributions: 1956: Permitted Nasser's nationalization of the Suez Canal 1967: Secretary-General U Thant withdrew UN peace- keeping forces from Gaza 1974: Invited Terrorist Yasser Arafat to address the General Assembly (long before the Oslo process started) 1975: Adopted the infamous resolution equating Zionism with racism 2000: UNIFIL obstructed investigation of Hezbollah kidnapping of Israeli soldiers 2001: Sponsored the anti-Israel World Conference on Racism in Durban, South Africa if thats not enough, there are endless examples. to make a long story short, the Majority is NOT always right, especially when the judge is one sided. the sad thing is that not only Israel suffers, who suffer more are those who really need the UN around the world and don't get its attention... bodypilot90 0 #41 May 1, 2003 Very informative post, Is the UN antisemitic? Sure seems like it to me. Quote -Head of Human Rights commission: Lybia -Head of Disarmament: Iraq (recently) -a member if the security council : Syria the UN seems like a joke... falxori 0 #42 May 2, 2003 Quote Is the UN antisemitic? i don't like to wave the "antisemitic" flag. the UN in its current structure is simply not balanced in most cases. more than 50 muslim countries, and most of the others don't really care and go with the flow. after awhile you don't really care what the UN says, because you know that no matter how one sided and untrue it might be it would still be accepeted. i remember one time when the syrian claimed in the general assembly that Israelis drink the blood of christian children... you can laugh about it, or you can cry about it, but you cant really take a group of clowns like those as an imparcial judge...
