Guest #1 May 9, 2003 Fun was had by all yesterday afternoon as I went to an allergy clinic in an effort to determine the root cause of the sinus infections I keep getting. The clinician put droplets of 40 different substances on my forearms, then poked them with a sharp object to make sure they went in... "ooh-ow-ooh-ow-ooh-ow-ooh-ow-ooh-ow!" It didn't hurt, I was just being dramatic for the RN who was doing the testing - she got a laugh out of it. Then I had to sit totally still like a meditiating Jedi for 15 minutes, trying not to move despite itching, etc. in my arms. Net result - NOTHING. NO reaction to any of the common substances that trigger allergic reactions. Not that I mind - it's just that I still get sinus infections despite two operations. I'm just wondering what it's going to take to make them stop. After that, I got phlebotomized and had some nasal mucous collected (yuck!). The specialist is hoping that immunity information can be gleaned from these, but I doubt it'll do anything."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." skymama 37 #2 May 9, 2003 Argh, allergy tests, yuck! I can still remember very vividly when I was 6 years old, and they numbered each arm up and down it to 44, and then poked me over and over. I ended up going on twice a month allergy shots for 6 years! I was also tested over and over in the backs on my arms and also had to suffer through the back scratch test (the absolute worst!). Now I can stand any type of needle coming at me at least. That epidural during childbirth was nuthin'! Mark, I hope they figure out what's ailing you soon! Guest #3 May 9, 2003 Thanks! I must be honest that the operations did give me some relief. I was getting infections back-to back before the surgery last September. Since then, I've had only one full-blown infection, so it's helped a lot. I would like it all to go away for good though. What a nuisance....
