The other day I d/l an update for one of my games but it slowed down my puter as well as the game I later on read to NOT d/l that particular update due to the bugs that were in it and so on. Well I didnt read down that far so now Im in a rut. I tried uninstalling it and deleting it and such the re installed the game but its still coming up as the updated version... so how do I get it off the registry so I can start from scratch? one I dont know how to even access it and 2 everyone always tells me that if I dont know what Im doing better not to even try or Ill be reformatting everything- GQ ... it was the love of the air and sky and flying, the lure of adventure, the appreciation of beauty ... -Charles Lindberg
PhreeZone 20 #2 May 11, 2003 First what Game and who makes it? This is fairly easy, but if you do it wrong you can nuke your whole system. Boot into Safe mood. Uninstall the game completely. Then delete the directory that the Game installed to. Reboot and see if that takes care of it. If not repeat the above and Click on Start, Run then type Regedit. Click on Edit, Find. Type in the game name and see where it occurs. Delete any occurences of it. If the game is a Microsoft game... good luck finding the right keys.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

I'll be away for a few days now, but I hope you/us fix it for ya Rich M
Opie 0 #5 May 11, 2003 another question for the guru's: If I'm behind a linksys cable/dsl router, do I need to bother running a software firewall--microsoft or Norton?

CrazyIvan 0 #7 May 11, 2003 Quoteanother question for the guru's: If I'm behind a linksys cable/dsl router, do I need to bother running a software firewall--microsoft or Norton? To be X-tra secure YES, I have a Linksys router, AND, Zone Alarm on each of the computers hooked to the network. If you have Zone Alarm Pro, you can 'install' it on the router, but, in my opinion is better that each machine has its own firewall, in case the router goes kaput.__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you. Opie 0 #8 May 11, 2003 Ok then, will zone alarm interfere with printer & filesharing of several computers connected through the router? or is it just a matter of setting up zone alarm properly? I ask because I was having trouble networking but if I turn off all the firewalls all is well.
CrazyIvan 0 #9 May 11, 2003 The router handles TCP/IP only, file sharing has nothing to do.__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you.
Slappie 9 #10 May 11, 2003 Ok I'm not a super geek. But, I've found this product alot of help. Specialy when deleting programs and wanting to remove old registy entries they've installed. http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/shtml/regcleaner.shtml It's called RegCleaner. I was turned on to it from GameSpot. It's free and easy to use. You can also use it to clean up your process at start up. Best way to do this, is to: Use windows Add/Remove programs Remove the program Delete the folder and any residual files left behind Then run RegCleaner and remove all old entries that problem installed.. Your done and can proceed to re-install your mistake "Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them." You gotta be careful using those 'Reg Cleaners tools' sometimes the software 'mistakenly' deletes keys that it's not supposed to. Another way to get rid of unwanted keys is to RESTORE THE REGISTRY, using the previous backup prior to installing the software you got rid of, but you better careful. If you install/uninstall frequently, you should BACKUP the registry prior to installing the software package, if you don't like it, uninstall it and RESTORE the registry, that way, all the 'left overs' will go away.__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you. Slappie 9 #12 May 11, 2003 Good point, but this is not a "AutoCleaner" you have to manually uninstall the Reg-Keys.. I've not run into problems so far. The tool also makes a backup before you've done anything. So if you do screw up you can load it from a backup file and try again LOL "Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them."
