kevin922 0 #1 May 12, 2003 Does anyone know the actual number of fatalities so far in 2003? It seems like it is higher than the norm, perhaps it's just because i'm hearing more about them and it's right on target for the norm.. anyone know?
skydivejersey 0 #2 May 12, 2003 I know how you feel. I have lost a friend yesterday and the sister of a friend last week. Only last month a friend of mine lost an ex student of his in Portugal. This sport can be cruel when it wants to be.
CanuckInUSA 0 #3 May 12, 2003 As far as US fatalities are concerned, they're probably at an average level right now. But there have been at least one every weekend for the last month which likely gives the appearance that they're up. But there were few between January and March (obviously a good thing). Of course now that the jumping season is kicking into gear in the northern climates, we could see more and more. I think each jumper needs to take responsibility for their own safety as well as the safety of those jumping around them and we need to take as much human error out of the sport as possible. Lets have fun out there, but remember that none of us are invincible. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Casch 0 #6 May 13, 2003 I wonder if it would be wise to have a "Safety Day" every few months instead of once a year. I know everyday should be safety day, but having the seminars regularly to correspond with hightened participation at specific times of the year in certain colder climates might help the fatality situation. Just a thought...
jtval 0 #7 May 13, 2003 that would be cool if we all got to gether and did that but I dont think it would go over well as a MAndtory thing. as always though, I say lets think safety everyday. LOOKOVER everones gear as they ge tin the plane! IM a big cheststrap guy. I make sure everyone has got thiers on as they get in AND out of the plane! i look at other things too but thats a big thing with me for some reason!!! I once jumped with a girl who forgot to close her face mask! not neccessarily a big deal but i reached up and closed it as she was hanging on the plane. she smiled and winked! but little things like that can change the course of a jump...possibly of a life!My photos My Videos
