DYEVOUT 0 #1 May 13, 2003 Does anyone know how to get rid of a black bear? (besides shooting it out of season) Last fall I was forced to move my trash cans into my garage, after tiring of picking up their scattered contents. My wife and I like to feed wild birds - and tolerated the occasional bear attack on the feeders, but this time the critter wrecked a 1 1/2" pipe bird feeder stand I had cemented into the ground. The Fish & Game Nazis have been contacted, but - true to form - will do nothing. Our acreage IS on the side of a wooded mountain, but the bear problems only started a couple of years ago. They are probably being pushed out to us by other areas developing. I don't want to hurt the bear (until bear season), and any action I take must be Labrador Retriever safe. I've heard that the smell of ammonia really turns them off, but it also turns me off - and it would take gallons after every rain to be effective. Anybody know? ----------------=8^)---------------------- "I think that was the wrong tennis court."
AggieDave 6 #2 May 13, 2003 Is it a threat to you and your own? Yup. Shoot the fucker. Hell, if I was close, then I'd do it for you, give me a good reason to finally put a Ruger SuperHawk on a credit card...--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." DYEVOUT 0 #3 May 13, 2003 Quote Shoot the fucker. I'd love to put it in the freezer, but the sumbitch makes itself scarce during the season, and I ain't skinning and cutting up a bear in my garage, it would go to my butcher - who might get in trouble if he didn't report a bear taken out of season. Our poaching laws are damn stiff up here, too. Get the Super Redhawk ----------------=8^)---------------------- "I think that was the wrong tennis court." pupErazr 0 #4 May 13, 2003 I don't want to see it get shot, I don't even like it when you go deer hunting. My website smells really good
AggieDave 6 #5 May 13, 2003 If you shoot it in self defense, then it isn't poaching. It attacked you, you just happened to be armed b/c you were scared of being attacked (since its been around before)...see, win/win situation. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." AggieDave 6 #7 May 13, 2003 One of our jumpers (QTPi) has a bit of land and sometimes has wild-boar problems...I'm trying to talk her into letting myself and mfdammit (the Single-Helix guy) into camping out on her land after tossing some apples and other bait out...its been a while since I've been hog hunting, AND the DZ could use a good pig-roast. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
