freeflir29 0 #1 May 13, 2003 I'm not a knife collector or anything but I needed a nice sturdy folder for work. I was down popping a few rounds off at the range earlier and couldn't pass this one up. I got a Smith and Wesson SWAT First Millenium Run for about $33. I thought it was a pretty good deal. I guess my only complaint is I wish the grip was a tad fatter. What do the officianados think about this one?

AggieDave 6 #3 May 13, 2003 Its not bad, but I prefer Spyderco Enduro's for the low end folder...(I've had a handful of them, love 'em and carry one everyday) My Spyderco is like an American Express Card, I never leave home with out it! For something better, I REALLY love Emerson's stuff.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
sunshine 2 #4 May 13, 2003 I can't wait to come over and see your knife. I have a bit of a weapon collection. Knives, axes, mallets, etc. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug!

payback462 0 #6 May 13, 2003 dude that taylor cutlery s&w stuff is CRAP! dont waste your money. like aggie dave said, the spydie enura is great for a cheaper (under $50) folder and i again have to agree that Emersons production stuff is top end production stuff (exludinge sebbies cause theyre waaay overpriced), well worth the money (i have a commander myself) if your looking for a folding prybar try the Buck/ strider collaboration knife with My buddies Mick strider and Duane dwyer, its MASSIVE! edited to add( this is coming from a guy who used to own around $6000 in custom cutlery so take it for what you will)
freeflir29 0 #7 May 13, 2003 I saw some Spydercos there but they were about $20 more and the blades didn't look as sturdy. The blade on this S&W is really thick. I still can't believe how cheap it was. $33 was with my 10% discount they give us. It came out of the box plenty sharp enough to shave my arm. We'll see how it holds up to sharpening over the years. Of course...since this is my work knife it will ONLY be used in an emergency so that probably won't be an issue. Kinda like a hook knife.

freeflir29 0 #9 May 13, 2003 Quote dude that taylor cutlery s&w stuff is CRAP! Well.....they had some nice "Benchmade" knives there. But ~$200 was a LITTLE more than I wanted to spend.
AggieDave 6 #10 May 13, 2003 Well, I guess that's how we differ, my knife is a tool that I use all the time for all sorts of crap, but primarily, it is a self defense weapon. I've spent quite a bit of time with my knife(s) that I'm able to draw, open and be ready before you can blink. That's another thing I hate about S&W knives is the placement of the clip in reference to the thumb button, its backwards for a good tactical folder. Of course you could carry it in a kydex sheath around your neck/under shirt, but that's pointless, might as well get something like the CRKT stiletto blade for that. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." LouDiamond 1 #11 May 13, 2003 I believe Blade magazine did a feature on the S&W line of knives a while back. If it's the same one I'm thinking of , it got good marks from the magazine people. Personaly, I carry one of several different model Spyderco's as a "pocket knife" as well as CRKTs M-16. I collect Randall's and actually use it as opposed to most who never use them but simply collect them. I have one on my LBE for a fixed blade knife and a standard USAF pilot survival knife on my other LBV. Quote a LITTLE more than I wanted to spend. amatuer! now this http://www.tadgear.com/edged%20tools/msc-7_5b.htm is an expensive knife! (it was a moment of temporary insanity i swear, and i dont own it anymore so its ok)

AggieDave 6 #14 May 13, 2003 Shit, my mind just went blank... Whats the knife manufacture that makes really good custom field knives that a lot of military folks use? He also gives discounts to enlisted infantry/sf/etc guys (not to officers, though). His stuff is very very nice, I've been wanting some of his knifes for quite a while now.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Actually that would be a couple of them but Randall has been doing it for years. I got bumped ahead of the 2 year wait when I ordered mine and let them know I was military.
