lawrocket 3 #1 May 15, 2003 I left work a little early tonight (yes, 6:00 p.m. is actually very early for me) because the Anaheim Mighty Ducks were playing a playoff game against Minnesota. Now, I live in SoCal and work in downtown L.A. So I reckoned I'd head down to the sports bar a couple hundred yards down the block. There, I would scope out a location and a seat for my buddies when they arrived. I showed up and they had 3 big screens - one ready for the Ducks game, another with the Angels game, and the main event was, get this, Philadelphia v. Detroit for a basketball game. If it were the Lakers or even the Clippers (yeah, right) then it would be understandable. But this was a damned game three time zones away. THere were a couple of guys in there watching the basketball game, and several more of us for the hockey game. I asked the server, "So, are we gonna get the sound for the playoff game that actually involves the home team?" SHe said, "Ask the bartender. Can I get you something?" And I replied, "That depends on the bartender's answer." After speaking to the bartender, I split. I placed calls to my friends stating that I would not be at that location and would scope out another. I found a great spot! This should be the damned rules: 1) IF the Super Bowl is on, everything stops. 2) Final Four basketball. 3) The home team in the freaking playoffs. a) If at same time, team further in playoffs is watched 4) Playoff finals (All sports, like world cup included) 5) Home team 6) Away teams It just pissed me the hell off that they would grant deference to a basketball team including teams three time zones away while the local boys are kicking ass like never before. So, that sports bar just lost a customer. Is that order of merit list so ridiculous? Support the damned home team!!!! If you live in Dallas and the Stars are playing, how would you like to be relegated to watching and listening to The Clippers v. Atlanta Hawks because it isn't hockey? p.s. J.S. Giguere rules... I would rather talk to Giguere for 10 minutes than bang Kobe Bryant's woman and spend his money for a night... This year's cup playoffs has been incredible. I've been routing for the wild for the simple fact they have the lowest payroll. However, I routed for the Ducks against the Wings and the Stars. I am beginning to think it is their year. Little did I know when I saw the Devils and the Ducks at the Pond last Jan that it was a possible preview of the the Cup Final, kinda freaky... J.S.
