Question for Coloroado and SC jumpers about flying.

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at flying out to SC the 1st week of July and was wondering if any CO jumpers have had any probs with thier rigs as carry on at DIA.And the same thing for jumpers in SC.I'll be flying into Myrtle Beach and was wondering about security there for the flight back.I've already checked the Delta website and it says that rigs are no prob.Just wondering about security while checking my bags.I plan on taking my rig as carry on and not checking it.
Also, any ideas on how I should store my helmet. It will be checked in with my other bags.
PLanning on hitting the beach and seeing my son and taking him to the 4th of July boogie in Raeford.I made my tandem there and have been wanting to go back and jump again.Kind of a nostalgia thing.

I have flown out of DIA a number of times this year and have had no problems. I've checked the rig and I've also done the carry on thing. It's all in how you present yourself. When I travel with my rig, I don't carry it in a gear bag, I put it in one of those smaller suitcases with wheels. Makes it easier to get around the airport and doesn't draw as much attention. When I check my gear, the gear is in the same small suitcase and after I get my boarding pass I ask the person working behind the counter if after they have sent the suitcase through the x-ray, could I please put a lock on it. I've never had someone say no. Also, curb side check in is less hassle with checking the rig, but don't forget to tip the guy.
I'm confused as to why, when there is a post about travel with a rig, most times the jumper states what airline they are traveling with. I always wondered this, because when I've gone through security they aren't asking what airline I'm traveling on.

I guess it depends on what kind of helmet you have and what size suitcase. If I travel with my bigger suitcase, I just put my Factory Diver in that and pack things around it. If I'm traveling with a smaller suitcase, I have a bag for the Factory Diver, that I just carry on the plane with me.

Well I think it is cause the airlines can help with getting a rig on board if it is allowed. Flying out of San Diego 2 years ago the security gate said rigs are not allowed on the planes. Well I had Continental's bagage claim policy with and went back to the counter. After the guy looked at his own policy he escorted me threw security telling them that rigs were allowed on the plane.
Fly it like you stole it!
