MC208B 0 #1 May 18, 2003 Hello all, I was bored last night and got rid of a bunch of stuff using ad aware. Anyway, when all was done, I have no sound now. Only a hiss that increases and decreases in volume with the volume control. The only stuff I got rid of was N/A and the ad aware said it should be okay to delete them. Any help would be appreciated
Kris 0 #2 May 18, 2003 Check your volume settings in your Control Panel. If they're properly set, you may need to reload the drivers for your sound card.Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
falxori 0 #3 May 18, 2003 knowing ad-aware, i doubt its the cause but anything is possible (you should have made backups ) try removing the sound device from the control panel (system->device manager) and reboot, hopefully it will detect it and install the drivers again (either generic or from a CD). btw, it could also be a loose connector, check it before re-installing stuff. good luck O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." miked10270 0 #4 May 18, 2003 What operating system are you using? If it's XP or ME then try a system restore and see if that fixes it. On XP you can set your computer back as far as you want I think that on ME there's only one restore point. Check your sound properties - has the "mute all" box been inadvertently checked. LOSE THE AD-AWARE (!!!!!). Last time I checked, Ad-Aware hadn't updated their detections list since September 2002! Spybot Search & Destroy is better. Check out: http://www.msnbc.com/news/903765.asp?0cv=CB20&cp1=1 It's freeware (but the author Patrick Kolla doesn't object to donations) and it's available at: http://security.kolla.de/news.php?lang=en Regards, Mike. andy2 0 #5 May 18, 2003 the newer version of ad-aware doesn't permanently delete the files you find are "corrupted", I use quotes because Ad-Aware is not always accurate or correct in deeming something bad for your computer. It makes mistakes. It might of deleted some of your sound files. Check your quarantine list and click on the box that will undo the remove. Then reboot, that should have the files back in place, be careful though, the actual bad files that you took off will now be back on, you might want to run adaware again and be more picky about which files you delete. Good luck! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
