diverdriver 7 #1 May 18, 2003 K.....just got my copy of the 300-way DVD. Overall I like it. I give it a B+. But.......now I have to take exception with part of it. Not once anywhere are the pilots who flew on the formation listed. I think this may have been an oversight (I hope it was) but come on. Many other support crews were listed by name but the pilots were left out? The aircraft owners were listed but not all the owners flew on it. I'm not bitter, just thought that was an obvious goof of the video. Also, I thought the video was a bit choppy. The cuts are too short and don't really develop the character of each shot. It's like a string of snapshots rather than video. I like that there is a lot of aircraft shots but again they are way to short in length. You don't get the feeling of really flying in the formation. The viewer is left with a quick snapshot and can not really absorb the view. They are immediately wisked back to a ground shot or something else. And there don't seem to be enough personal interviews WITHOUT MUSIC. I want to know what the experience was like from the participants but I can't quite hear them well because the music is still playing over them. Overall I appreciate the work that was done. The video clips are awesome but could have been done better. I think the choppiness is the result of the MTV generation. This isn't a music video. It's a world record that took a year and a half at least to develop. So why present it as though everything happened in .5 second snippets?Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
narcimund 0 #2 May 18, 2003 Thanks for the warning. I might have gotten a copy, but now I know it's not worth it. I can't bear that crap. Too bad. It would be great to have otherwise. First Class Citizen Twice Over
skymama 37 #3 May 18, 2003 That's too bad that the pilots got left out, Chris. It seems to me that there's no way the formation could have gotten all together safely if the pilots didn't have their act together in the first place. I'm very impressed with the amount of organization and communication it must have taken between all of you. Y'all rock! On a side note, I saw the strangest mention of the 300-way last night. I was flipping through my daughter's "Seventeen" magazine, and there was a section showing clothes, and above the description of each outfit there was a little blurb of a different aeronautical accomplishment. I'm sure all the participants really feel like they've officially made it now that they've been mentioned in Seventeen! airgord 1 #4 May 18, 2003 Forget the pilots what about the poor saps who had to change out the oxygen tanks after every jump? None of us made it on the video!! Seriously though, most of the people that helped make it happen did not make the video, thats just editing, also it was made for the jumpers and not necessarily the public at large. Sorry Chris, you and I are just nobodies. ps I have seen the video and I enjoyed it, opinions, opinions................
diverdriver 7 #5 May 19, 2003 QuoteThanks for the warning. I might have gotten a copy, but now I know it's not worth it. I can't bear that crap. Too bad. It would be great to have otherwise. Hey Narc, I didn't say that you shouldn't get it. I do like it overall. I just had some self serving criticisms of it. I thought the title of the thread (taken from the Dell "Interns" commercials) would have given it a lighthearted tone. I did give it a B+ so that should say something. I think it's worth getting. Just was different from what I was expecting and thought some aspects could have been done better to achieve an "A" rating from my own feeble opinion pool. That's all. I think the raw long footage at the end was just great so see and have the photographers' names listed on screen as they exited. That was really cool.Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
diverdriver 7 #6 May 19, 2003 QuoteSorry Chris, you and I are just nobodies. ps I have seen the video and I enjoyed it, opinions, opinions................ Hey, I didn't say we are nobodies. I think they should have been included somwhere. The logistics of this whole thing needed to be covered (in my opinion). It gives anyone watching it years down the road the true sense of the event. But the story was not told that way in this official event video. That was my only criticism. Oh well.....I'm not saying I didn't like the video. Hell, I DID buy two of them.Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
airgord 1 #7 May 19, 2003 all of the footage shot still exists (48+ hrs) if there is enough interest they could do a directors cut type edition, but I think you and I would be the only ones in line for it. Most people don't care how it happened behind the scenes, just what happened. Oh well.

Guest #9 May 19, 2003 "What about the pilot(s)?!" "F* THE PILOT(s)!" heheheIn all seriousness, I think somebody is feeling very sheepish right now ("B-a-a-a-d credit titler! B-a-a-a-d!" heh) for the glaring omission. The WFFC video has included credits for just about everybody (including the pilots) but has a disclaimer "...and anybody else we may have missed (Sorry!)". Hope somebody steps up and accepts responsibility for this boo-boo. "The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
diverdriver 7 #10 May 20, 2003 Quote Hope somebody steps up and accepts responsibility for this boo-boo. Oh, I don't think anyone needs to do that. It can't change anything. I'm not hurt. No really. I was just noting it. I know what I've done. And anyone who wants to know the pilots can read my article so it isn't like we didn't get any mention anywhere. Remember, I gave it a B+. That's above average +.
