dropdeded 0 #6 May 20, 2003 uninformed here, does my virus protection consider a worm and a virus the same thing ? In other words, will I get the "VIRUS DETECTED" warning from a worm also ??? dropdeded------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
CrazyIvan 0 #7 May 20, 2003 Quote uninformed here, does my virus protection consider a worm and a virus the same thing ? In other words, will I get the "VIRUS DETECTED" warning from a worm also ??? dropdeded Those are terms to distinguish the 'nature' of the code, a VIRUS is a code able to replicate itself, a WORM is a piece of code which come attached to another file, it could be an email attachment, a 'hidden' sub-routine in another program, etc, and it doesn't replicate itself, any good virus scanner will detect both.__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you. BadDog 0 #8 May 20, 2003 As long as your anti-virus database is up to date and set to scan incoming email, it will pick this one up as soon as it arrives. I've nailed three so far (1 with AVG and 2 with Norton).

AggieDave 6 #10 May 20, 2003 Thanks Ivan, for answering that. Alright, AggieDave soapbox time: If people weren't stupid with their e-mail AND had a good scanner (as in NAV) AND kept their virus definitions up to date, then problems like this wouldn't get as big as they get. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." freefallfreak 0 #11 May 20, 2003 I haven't gotten that one yet but I DID get a worm infested attachment titled "your details" in an e-mail from microsoft yesterday. Norton caught it in my incoming mailbox before I had a chance to screw up my puter, so heads up ppl...watch what you open. FFF

You received a worm/virus in an attachment to an email that purported to come from MS. As low as they are, even the MS weenies do not send unsolicited email and they most certainly do not send executables via email. Yes, be careful; but don't blame anyone but yourself if you open attachments you were not explicitly expecting. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. freefallfreak 0 #14 May 20, 2003 Well gee dude...thanks for playing God. Even I know that Microsoft weenies wouldn't do something like that altho it did have a Microsoft addy. But I'll leave it to you to figure out who sent it...that is, if you can. I can't and don't care who did. I just know that my antivirus caught it and I'm happy about it. Ok...you can go back to playing in the sand box now. FFF
