AggieDave 6 #1 May 21, 2003 Alright, what do you do? I've been doing 180s lately (not snap hooks) and gettin SWEET results from it, very fast, fairly far, and loving it... NOTE: This thread isn't for any sort of educational value, its a purely a curiosity thing.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." rgoper 0 #3 May 21, 2003 since i've been flying my Heatwave (can't believe how well it handles) i started with 90's, i've worked my way cautiously to 180's. not snap hooks just yet, anothe 40-50 jumps. maybe by the time we get that Comp Cobalt 170^2 we can play and see what it will do vs. the Heatwave, i'm curious.--Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"
AggieDave 6 #4 May 21, 2003 Hey, get your butt up to Aggieland and we'll definately have fun playing with canopies! Unfortuantly right now its REALLY hard for me to get away from Aggieland (we're sorta understaffed right now), so I can' get down to Waller for a while.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." AggieDave 6 #6 May 21, 2003 Fuck yeah! Hopefully surf will be up and if the swoop gods are smiling, I'll be swooping like I was this past weekend...it was sick! --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
rgoper 0 #7 May 21, 2003 that swooping BS is VERY addicting! it's starting to scare me, i hope i don't get careless, but i'm still conservative, well i think so, i've been called down a few times for swooping the main landing area while the rw divers were gathering up their equipment, well, it wasn't really on purpose!??! --Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"
MrHixxx 0 #8 May 21, 2003 I really like the 270. You can look up and down the windline for traffic, pick a spot, and swoop the herd. -Hixxxdeath,as men call him, ends what they call men -but beauty is more now than dying’s when
freeflyz 0 #9 May 21, 2003 I do 180 or 270 just depends what mood I'm in!
fudd 0 #10 May 21, 2003 I don't got diveloops, so it's a bit difficult for me to hook it in yet I saw somebody take 4 x 360 once. That just looked really awesome. 1440 degrees There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
Tonto 1 #11 May 21, 2003 180, 270 or 90 one way 270 the other. Gives me alti range. tIt's the year of the Pig.
rgoper 0 #12 May 21, 2003 please don't be offended, but if your profile is current, you don't need them yet. in the future a good rigger can hook you up with some dive loops! --Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"
Ron 10 #13 May 21, 2003 Carving 180 to a crosswind touch down, then a swooping carve 90 degrees into the wind. On a good day I can get my leg gripper on the ground, and the end cell about 1-2 feet off the ground. This is why I still jump a Stiletto...I just never could get a great carve on the Velocity. I am sure it is the pilot, not the canopy. Steel 0 #14 May 21, 2003 I have been doing 270's since 11/2001 before that I did 720's. I found that is was near impossible to get the accuracy I wanted from a 720. That makes me think maybe I should give it another shot see if I can kick a ball out of a 720. I just don't think you will get much more speed out of a larger turn but it can definately catch peoples' attention more with the noise it makes. It was cool hearing whuffo comments after a 720 while walking in. I remember hearing it referred to as the spin of death, little did they know that it wasn't anymore dangerous than the normal 180 everybody else was doing, well maybe just a little. If I could make a wish, I think I'd pass. ramon 0 #15 May 21, 2003 Quote for swooping the main landing area while the rw divers were gathering up their equipment, well, it wasn't really on purpose!??! Not to start anything but if it wasn't on purpose, maybe you should practice a little further from the main landing area. When I started I knew I could land in a general vicinty or a main landing area but it took a long time before I could intentionally land in the main landing area while other canopies are coming in and the rW'ers are picking up their stuff ,..and...maintain control, swoop my ass off, avoid anything resembling a collision, and Not make any body around me nervous. Learning to turn (hook) at the right altitude takes discipline, desire, guts and probably some luck, but learning to do a high perf landing in a busy area takes experience and it is still not the best policy. freeflir29 0 #16 May 21, 2003 I find that starting a 180 in a slow carve and then snapping the last 90 works well for me. Easy to judge, easy to adjust, gives good visibility of traffic, can build MAD speed if done properly. Even on my realtively lightly loaded Stiletto(1.3ish) I can eat up 700-800 ft when done right. pop 0 #17 May 21, 2003 I usually do 90 degree hook to the left using the front riser. Then I do a 270 degree turn to the right using the right toggle. I let go of the toggle and grab the right front riser and do another 180 degrees. This gets my canopy going really fast. I then grab the left front riser and do a 360 turn and land. I begin all this about 80-90 feet off the ground. just kidding 7 ounce wonders, music and dogs that are not into beer
AggieDave 6 #18 May 21, 2003 So, that's how you're able to hit the swoop strip every time, huh? --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
