Seb,

You are one of the most experienced, reliable, respected and loved skyjumpers at the dz. You are always willing to share information, ideas and jumps with others. Even on the dives where the poo flies freely you always have safety in mind. Every skydiver here knows that. Although, there is a certain fenceline that seems to have developed a nervous twitch and cowers when it sees a certain canopy setting up. The poo-flinging belongs in the sky and the ground is the domain of beer, boobies and the occaisonal bombing run.

We love ya Seb, 'specially on Sunday mornings.

Kath.

p.s. I wasn't actually here for the jump in question (:):D. But you are the "Fence Worrier"

What she said, and no-one was really pissed, it was just a friendly ribbing that got misunderstood.

Simon

I've decided not to post anything else on the matter regarding the incident. You guys do it on your own. Everybody thinks I pulled Vinnies (TheAnvil's) cutaway when the exit funneled on our second record attempt this weekend. Here is a pic attached that shows my hand on the pillow. Anyway after I noticed the cutaway handle fly by me and noticed it was TheAnvil's, I quickly grabbed him and waved everybody off. I made sure that the airspace above him and around him was clear and indicated to him that he would need to go straight to silver. He understood and everybody made it the ground safely...

Regardless if I did it or not I offered to pay Vinnie for half the reserve repack and half the cost of his handle because of the grief I have received. And the grief poured on by some has been pretty overboard. To the point where I am questioning some of my friendships at the DZ. People can be such pricks sometimes. This was not an incident of poor judgement or carelessness.

If you do something stupid because of ignorance or poor judgement then whatever, tease them, laugh at them, whatever floats your boat, teach em a lesson by making people feel bad I guess...

But if you're not sure what happened, like something that happened Sunday where there was no carelessness or ignorance. Just an incident that nobody really knows what happened. The situation was dealt with properly. That should be that.

I could mention quite a few stupid things that people have done in these forums. I don't. You see me riding anyone about how they can't exit a fuckin plane? So stfu...

And what I did was not stupid. It was an accident I'm not really sure I am responsible for but I took responsibility anyway. Cause of some of you fuckers out there riding me so hard. So whatever...

P.S. ~ I'm not really that mad... Just kind of annoyed.

I read this and just wanted to give an opinion. Looks to me like you acted pretty responsibly, as far as pulling someones' cutaway, that was an accident, and accidents happen. You have to be ready for them. I think it is pretty fucked up that people were giving you an attitude at the DZ, because you heroically took control of the situation and took responsibility.

Dude, if people are acting like that then they are not your friends and they dont deserve your time. From how you described it, I think you acted pretty heroically and those that are criticizing you are a bunch of lameasses. Find some new friends.

If I was on a similar jump, I'm not sure if I would understand what's the problem while on freefall. How did you get rid of everybody else? What signal(s) did you use? How did you notify your friend that he had to go for silver?

Yes, please give some of us "low timers" some detail.

As to my personal note: Fuck those punks:P, you did well.

Yes, please.

On a different note:
Not being there, and not hearing the comments, I would like to offer a thought.

I know that when I fuck up, either in the air or in my life, I already feel badly and know I fucked up. Sometimes, people pointing it out, and ribbing me about it gets taken the wrong way. I got sued on a file (my second deal, 3 years ago), and was given a seriously hard time about it. It wasn't my fault, etc., but for about a year I was called "lawsuit Sally". It bothered me incredibly, and made me rethink my abilities. Finally, someone pulled me aside, and told me everyone knew the story, and that it was all in fun. Took me a long time to get past that, though.

Sometimes, people don't realize how hurtful something they say really is. I know, thick skin and all that, but there comes a point where, if you already feel badly, whacking someone around is no longer appropriate. Sometimes, the people doing the whacking really don't know they are being as heavy-handed as they are. And sometimes, the person being whacked around is already doing enough whacking in their own head that outside stuff is superfluous and just compounds the issue. Friendships strained and confidence lessened.

I'm willing to bet Sebazz feels badly enough; I am also willing to bet that the folks were mostly goodnaturedly teasing, and didn't realize that it was as hurtful as it is. And I am finally willing to bet that Sebazz handled a situation which could've been deadly in a manner which was beyond capable and fine. He can teach me a thing or two; and I look forward to learning from him.

Let's start by saying he did not know his handle had been pulled. First thing I did was get right in front of him and docked on his arm grips. As people approached to dock on us thinking we where the base I waved one arm wildly like a wave off motion(like at pull time). That was the way I was telling people to leave. I'm sure the look on my face as they approached was also a hint;). So then I looked at Vinnie and repeatedly touched my cutaway handle. He eventually did the same and realized he did not have a cutaway. I'm sure he knew what he had to do at that point but I went further and started tapping my reserve handle and mouthing the word "go silver" over and over. I could tell he understood. I stayed with him and continually waved folks off. In hind sight I should have kicked my legs a little more too. I stayed with him till 3,500 feet when I noticed everyone was gone and gave him the standard pull signal. He pulled silver...

One other thing I did not notice that I should have is that he did have an RSL. Had he just deployed normally maybe he would have had a slower opening but I did not notice in freefall he had an RSL... So aside from that there was not much else to do.

There was mention that we should have continued the dive and that he should have been prepared for that situation anyway. The was not an option for me. No heroics. Nthing to really be scared about. Just letting everyone notice what I noticed. Just as I would expect the same from anyone else...

I probably was more annoyed than usual because I did feel bad. Being led to believe it was my fault any of it had happened in the first place. I just didn't see it as a humorus episode. reserve repack, ordering a new handle, hosing the rest of the day for a fellow jumper, watching 12 other people floundering around the sky just slightly confused...

...those things can weigh heavy on the mind. Mine anyway.

...I'm surprised I received so much shit for pulling a handle more than I did for punching him out on exit;) Crapflinger I have never laughed so hard at a post before:P

That being said... I think we can move on now.

Michele,
As one of the ribbers in question, I think that you hit the nail right on the head! I'm sorry Seb!

You're not a dick, you don't suck, and I'm the only one who has a right to really 'Razz Sebazz' over this and I was done Saturday on the van ride back when I called you a 'fucker'.

That's a good description of what happened dude. If we hadn't funnelled the exit, we wouldn't be having this discussion. After multiple pics and multiple theories - all proven to be incorrect by successive photos - I attribute the funnel to strange turbulence at altitude caused by bird flatulence or alien intervention of some sort.

Seb isn't giving himself enough credit. He smoothly transitioned into emergency mode and handled the situation flawlessly. Who gives a rat's ass about the RSL? I need to get rid of that thing anyway. It's going to take a lot more than a reserve ride to take away my smile!:S:)
I DO think that if I ever have to do a terminal velocity reserve opening again, I'm going to tuck my chin down against my chest before opening so I don't crank my neck as badly. My neck still hurts worse than the last time I got knocked out - I think that was in '93 - and it's a biatch to get up in the morning after I sleep on it. Minor details - it'll go away.

On to a far more important issue. >:( YET ANOTHER PICTURE OF ME WHERE MY FACE LOOKS LIKE I'VE BEEN REPEATEDLY NAILED IN THE FACE WITH A FRYING PAN HAS BEEN POSTED!!!! >:(:P Right at the start of this thread. First ChopChop and now Sebazz - bastards!;)

I'm going to have to buy a camera just so some decent photos of me can get up here once in a while. All of the hot skydiving-chicks must think I'm the ugliest SOB in the sky. :D If I'm that ugly all the time, why the hell hasn't anyone told me? What kinds of friends are you anyway? ;):S

LMFAO. Hope y'all are doing great! If I don't make it down to Perris drink a beer or six for me and make sure billvon's group breaks that record. We have to try some more big ways here in NORCAL too. And I repeat for those who didn't read the last thread: anyone hiding a cutaway handle and showing it to me in freefall as a gag will open themselves up to retaliatory actions on a scale of which they cannot possibly begin to fathom!

Work calls.

Beers to all!

By the way, I have to point out that Liz drinks Shiner. I have that on video. Now, you have to understand that Shiner is one of my favorite beers. It doesn't get any better than a hot Cali chick who likes Shiner. What more can you ask for?
