Frodo 0 #1 May 22, 2003 Recently I've ordered my goggles from Square1, and this wasn't clear to me: which is better/cooler - goggles w/ clear lens, black, or smoke? I ended up buying the ones with clear lens, cos I thought that wearing black ones on a not-so-sunny day wasn't a good idea. (yes I know that generally you're above the clouds most of the skydive, but still...) So, what kind of goggles do you wear? Or, if you use a full-face helmet, do you wear any goggles "under" it (I heard some people do)?
FallingILweenie 0 #2 May 22, 2003 actually, when i had tinted goggles the biggest problem wasn't on cloudy days but on the sunset loads....
payback462 0 #3 May 22, 2003 i ussually wear a pair of the lane goggles w/clear lenses or if its real sunny a pair of sunglasses w/a strap on the back of them

AggieDave 6 #6 May 22, 2003 Yup, sunglasses for me too...Gatorz, actually. Its nice, on those sunset loads, where they're too dark, I just pull them down and I can see just fine. Although, I *really* want to order a new set of Gatorz with yellow lenses (yeah, I could switch out the lenses, but that sucks...) for loads like that/night time driving/shooting/etc. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." dterrick 0 #7 May 22, 2003 Heya Frodo: d'ya wear contacts? I've flipped/lost contacts even WITH goggles on - never jumped without. Otherwise it's just like riding a motorcycle at 120 mph in sunglasses ... I bought something almost identical to the wrappers found HERE but with a smoke tint (actually snowboard gogglz) [edit: shit, link keeps dumping me to headgear page - go to "accessories, Goggles, item # G 1155] Until you do RW or late sunset loads it's not a big deal to have a tint or not - but when learning RW remember that your coach can NOT see your eyes and eye contact is a big thing for exit timing, etc. You may be asked to get some clear ones ... if so go for some cheapies - also good for night jumps. One other thing - consider eye "protection" not just wind protection in case of a strike - I had a bad opening and during the recoil I smacked myself in the face and STILL had a bruise around where the goggles seated - cheapies would give you no such protection. Serious (or rich) RW people go to full face helmets for 'face protection' because stuff like that can happen Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
CrazyIvan 0 #8 May 22, 2003 I use some cheap over-the-glasses goggles, but I ordered a cool pair from SportRx, I'll be getting them anyday now. __________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you.
SkyDekker 1,465 #9 May 22, 2003 I wonder if there are any people who wear contacts, but jump with regular sunglasses.

AggieDave 6 #11 May 22, 2003 Do you happen to know if he has soft or hard contacts? I don't wear contacts or glasses, but I've heard that the different types can make a difference.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Katzeye 0 #14 May 22, 2003 I'm a firm believer in clear goggles. I like to see the eyeballs of whom I'm jumping with, since 90% of our communication up there is through the "windows to the soul" Is a chicken omelette redundant?
Brains 2 #15 May 22, 2003 I wear Gatorz sometimes but usually jump with my Oakly minutes. The ear pieces come off and i have a strap from oakley that replaces the stock ear pieces. I also have three sets of lenses for them. Polorized(tinted) yellow, and lite blue.(see avatar) Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you. I like to see the eyeballs of whom I'm jumping with, since 90% of our communication up there is through the "windows to the soul" I agree wit you, but my eyes have always been very sensitive to light, and the one caveat my surgeon had for me after LASIK was that my eyes would now be ultra-sensitive to light. Therefore, to save my sight and eliminate headaches, I always wear smoked goggles and wear sunglasses at all time outdoors. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money.
