DTOXX 0 #2 May 22, 2003 LOL Hey Ed. My wife and daughter were spouting off the names of the finalist and I honestly had NO idea who they were talking about. I fail to see the excitement. I mean what does it have to do with my life? In short, you are NOT alone. ------- D.T. Holder SIMstudy

Okay, I have to admit...Buffy was one of my biggest guilty pleasures. Allyson Hannigan, ROWR!Best quote I have read yet as to why Buffy has such a large following: "Hot lesbian witches! hooked 0 #7 May 22, 2003 Never watched Buffy and the Vampire, and I don't intend to watch it. Now, American Idol, yes I did watch it....the whole series. Some were good, some were not. I really believe the best three made it to the final three. I wanted Clay to win, but Ruben was very good too! When their CD's are released, the charts will tell who is the American Idol. These contestants had a dream and we got to watch them try to achieve that dream. I enjoy listening to a good singer. FallinWoman 1 #8 May 22, 2003 I must confess...I am a reality TV junkie..... I loved American Idol....except I did not like the winner....I so wanted Clay to win. I was also hooked on Survivor and Mr. Personality. I am pathetic....I can admit it! ~Anne I'm a Doll!!!!
tigra 0 #9 May 22, 2003 I got sucked in to American Idol because so many people at work are into it, and I wanted to be able to contribute to the "water cooler" chatter, you know?? But the front page of the paper? Top news story? That's a little over the top! And Buffy has been a guilty pleasure of mine for a while now. I liked how they ended it, but I'm kind of sad to see it go!
jfields 0 #10 May 22, 2003 I can't wait for reality TV to die. Either that, or get moved to some reality TV cable channel, which is about the same thing. When will people figure out that there is nothing real about it?
Muenkel 0 #11 May 22, 2003 I have to disagree with lumping American Idol into the same category as the rest of the "reality" TV shows. These contestants have real talent and endured a grueling competition. Imagine week after week, having to perform songs that may or may not be your style in front of 25 million people and then be critiqued on everything. I think the show has introduced fresh new talent into the music industry. I am especially pleased that it was based on talent on not looks. jfields 0 #12 May 22, 2003 Chris, I suppose it is a little different. While still all being about the ratings, American Idol also manages to sucker "fresh new talent" into the music industry in contracts that the contestants will live to regret. When their 15 minutes of fame are over, they'll be stuck with contractual manacles to a record label that has squeezed every marketable penny from them in grueling schedules before tossing them aside. Since they can't escape their contracts and get other decent work, we'll see them as washed-up, burnt-out alcoholics in 5 years. Am I cynical, or what? tigra 0 #14 May 22, 2003 Actually, I think the performers on Nashville Star were way more talented. I'm not really into country music, but I came across the show one night while I was channel surfing and left it on. I was pretty impressed with the talent I saw. Its a good reminder of just how hard it is to break into show business! The performers on Nashville Star were musicians and songwriters, and had an opportunity to perform their own material. The producers also did not limit their talent search to the under 25 crowd.

Right. So to carry the theme: Josh: Dishonorable discharge after going AWOL to escape jeering of fellow Marines. Ruben: Heart attack, gastric bypass surgery, "retired" to low-rent home in Florida. Clay: Comes out of closet, loses record deal (unjustly) on "morals clause" and ends up working at WalMart.

SkymonkeyONE 4 #24 May 22, 2003 I must admit that I saw about 20 minutes of one of the final shows as I was bored and channel surfing here in The Rancho Deluxe. Good singers or not, I don't think either one of those guys will make it anywhere in showbusiness. Peter Pan Clay will not make it because he comes off like a complete candy-ass, and the big black guy, while having a booming voice, needs to lose about 100 pounds before any love-lost boozehags will consider rubbing one out over him. BWAHAHAHAHA! I agree that while that contest does a fair job of weeding out contestants head-to-head, they should, in the later rounds, make them bust out their OWN material. hooked 0 #25 May 22, 2003 Quotethey should, in the later rounds, make them bust out their OWN material. I totally agree with this!!!!! I would love to hear some original songs by some of these finalists, instead of singing to songs everyone already knows. Actually, I think one of the songs that were sung on the final competition night was an original.
