brits17 0 #26 May 22, 2003 you cant dog annika because she accepted the invitation to play... you're right, 120 of the best players, and she was chosen by the pga, even if she is a female. there's a chivalry post thats blazing in the women's forum, and some noted that men are generally stronger than women, physically. not discrimination against anyone, its just the fact of life. it would be ridiculous to think that women could generally compete physically with the men on the pga tour, therefore they are entitled to their own. however, if a women IS strong enough, mentally and physically to compete with the best in the world, why not let her? its only fair. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

wmw999 2,589 #28 May 22, 2003 I can see the "why can't men go to the LPGA" argument, I really can. But then I consider the junior tour, and the senior tour. Men who are eligible for them are also eligible for the PGA. Just like figure skating, and swimming, and plenty of other stuff. Adult men who aren't high enough in the PGA can't go to the junior tour. They're not eligible. Maybe the deal should be that if you compete in the PGA, you cannot also compete in the LPGA. That, to me, would be fair. Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. You make a good point here and rules like this do exist in other sports. Case in point, a few years ago I played hockey with this young guy who was attending college and was very good. When I asked him why he wasn't playing college hockey, he responded saying that he spent one year playing junior hockey up north (the rule being anyone who's played one or more games in the CHL is ineligible to play NCAA hockey). skymedic 0 #30 May 22, 2003 You can play up but you can't play down......men dropping down to play LPGA would be like a varsity star running back playing on a freshman football team....you can play up but you can't play down. that is NOT fair....go ANIKA Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman.... When Babe Zaharias started playing golf, she had to convince the sponsors/adverstisers that there was a market for womens golf products. That is what this is all about. Bank of America sponsors the event. The tv stations sell advertising. Imagine if there was no LPGA. Soon, very few women would be winning. When they stopped making money, they would quit. No more women players, fewer golf products sales to women, less advertising dollars. It's all about the cash.
chachi 0 #33 May 22, 2003 I understand the point of being able to play up not down, what if you can't make the PGA should you be able to try out for the LPGA becasue that is your class of competition? Kinda like women only gyms really bother me but they outlaw men only social clubs, just not exactly fair. By the way I am not chauvinist I agree the women that can do the same exact job should be given the same exact chance at the job and the same exact pay as a male counterpart. ~Chachi
skymedic 0 #34 May 22, 2003 They have lower levels of tours for men...that can't make the BIG tour. I agree women only clubs are kinda goofy too in that way. Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....
chachi 0 #35 May 22, 2003 But why shouldn't ALLl options be open to the men if ALL options should be open to women. The women also have jr. and sr. ladies events, as well as separate college action. ~Chachi

What do you think of women-only records? In skydiving, there is no skill difference and strength matters very little.
chachi 0 #37 May 22, 2003 I think if we want gender equality anytime in life there should be no double standard. IE. I believe it is unfair to have 2 separate entrance requirements and physical test differences in the police, fire, miliatary. But there is. If the minimum requirement is X for Men, it should be X for Women, even if it is lower becasue you are saying that that is the minimum requirement for doing the job. Same with the PGA, the NBA, NHL, you name it. Tear down the restrictions, I'm all for it, but don't be surprised when men are winning ladies jobs in these events and women are winning men's job's in the men's tours. ~Chachi

I have no problem with a women only record. records to me dont really mean much. that is just my personal opinion. granted 300 way was awesome and all, but what I care about is how much fun people have on a skydive. too much pressure makes for no fun at the DZ.... wmw999 2,589 #39 May 23, 2003 Quote Kinda like women only gyms really bother me but they outlaw men only social clubs Well, one thing is that gyms and social clubs are two different things. Also, one reason for woman-only gyms is some (well, many) women's dislike of knowing that they're being evaluated for their looks like a side of meat, and talked about on dz.com Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. ccowden 0 #41 May 23, 2003 What is the point, really. There are a few women who can do what Annika is doing- finishing in the top 75 on a PGA event. Big deal. All it proves is that she is a really good female golfer who can be an average golfer on the PGA tour. She is in 72nd place after one round. So what has she proved? Nothing we already didn't know. Which is- Annika can finish amongst the "average men" on a short PGA course that lends itself to an accurate hitter. She says she isn't there to make a point? Then why is she there at all? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Plain and simple.

ccowden 0 #43 May 23, 2003 No- I dont blame her at all! I just wish we could cut thru this man vs. woman crap and admit it! If she palyed the entire PGA year, she would hardly even be on the list. Not even top 100.
ThighMan 5 #44 May 23, 2003 I really don't blame her. Look at the Money she is making and the amount that "GOLF" will be pulling in because of her. Now, look at the guy she will beat. The money the player will loose because she is better. Should he not be able to go "DOWN" to the womens (LPGA) and make it back? We all know what that answer is: NO.Airborne Blue Skies, No Wind Feet and Knees Together
CanuckInUSA 0 #45 May 23, 2003 From what I can tell, Annika has made three birdies, a bogie and two pars in her first six holes today. For those of us who are cheering for her, let's hope she keeps this up. You go girl!!! CanuckInUSA 0 #47 May 23, 2003 My original source of info wasn't very good. FallRate 0 #48 May 24, 2003 I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but whether she wins, loses, proves a point, etc...In the end she is still contributing to a lame sport which wastes a boatload of quality landing area. flyhi 24 #49 May 24, 2003 QuoteI mean hell she hits further than 80% of the pros on the pga tour anyways,, I thought golf was, "Drive for show, putt for dough"? ThighMan 5 #50 May 24, 2003 Well, watching the new last night and of course the story about Annika and golf come one. A person said that Annika drives farther than 90% of the Guys, well, look at the hole that was 600 yards long and she was the shortest. Don't get me wrong, she is a great golfer but was out classed this time. Lets see the next time she goes head to head with the guys. With the money they made at this one, you know that they will do it again.Airborne Blue Skies, No Wind Feet and Knees Together
