Stay cool, girl! I've heard about this on the radio and news stations. She shut off her cellphone the other day because Tiger Woods was calling her every few hours to give her tips and to help her calm down also tips on dealing with the media etc... Instead his calls were just adding to her stress level. I personaly hope she does well. I don't think she has an ice cubes chance in hell of winning it. But wouldn't that blow some male egos on the PGA tour.. BikerBabe 0 #3 May 22, 2003 oh, she won't win. but right now she's doing pretty well. All the male golfers are pissed that she's there, blah blah blah. I wonder what it was like 50 years ago when Babe Zaharias played on the men's tour. I bet there wasn't such a huge outcry. Seems we've taken a step backward... here's another interesting perspective that refutes a lot of the "rock-solid" arguments against her playing: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/golfonline/news/2003/05/20/from_the_gallery/Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! CanuckInUSA 0 #4 May 22, 2003 I hope she kicks ass. I think it's bullcrap what some of the male golfers have been saying that she shouldn't be allowed to play. If she's good enough to make the cut, then why shouldn't she be allowed to play with the boys. It's not like golf is a contact sport. You go girl!!! brits17 0 #5 May 22, 2003 well since i'm a huge golf fan i've been following annika and this deal from the start. i'm totally for her, she's got a great attitude. also, although there are golfers on tour like vijay singh who won't even play if he's paired with her, its totally about the skill of the player, not the gender. after all, its the professional golf assoc, not professional men's golf assoc. although she probably won't win, she's handling the pressure well. play on _______________________ aerialkinetics.com
Push 0 #6 May 22, 2003 It would be downright unfair to make women play football with the men and expect them to perform the same. Without a doubt there are significant differences in physiology between men and women, and I don't think I'm being sexist saying that. But golf? Skydiving doesn't have a sex distinction because it's mostly a mental sport. Golf is similar. If she has the strength to hit the ball hard enough, why shouldn't she play in the more difficult tournament? -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. I agree, it is the PGA, Pro Golf Association not the MPGA, Male Pro Golf Association. Though I think that if she wants to become a regular on the tour, she should ahve to get her ticket just like everyone else. If she turns out to be good enough to compete, then I think she should be able to. BikerBabe, Certainly not all men on the tour were against here playing!! edited because I cannot spell BikerBabe
rhino 0 #9 May 22, 2003 She is hitting from the same tee box right? I mean hell she hits further than 80% of the pros on the pga tour anyways,, As a professional myself I think it is great what she is doing. I think their shlould just be a pga tour. not lpga. We are all equal with the advances in equipment these days. Rhino
SkyDekker 1,465 #10 May 22, 2003 QuoteIf Golf was about strength, Tiger Woods wouldn't be able to drive more then about 50ft... depends how you define strength. I understand Tiger spends 6 days a week in the gym pumping iron. I would wager to say that he could bench press quite a bit more than the average american and is in better shape than about 90% of the American population. I agree, and I knew you were going to say that, that is why I said, it depends on how you define strength. A bodybuilder or a powerlifter or a golfer will all have their different views on that. chachi 0 #20 May 22, 2003 I think it is great that she can compete with the guys, but isn't it discrimination if all the guys wanted to play in the LPGA and they weren't allowed? What about the guys playing in LPGA and cleaning up? What about them taking chances away from women if tehy were allowed to play. I have no problem with her competing but then lets just have one series with the best 120 golfers. ~Chachi
CanuckInUSA 0 #21 May 22, 2003 QuoteI have no problem with her competing but then lets just have one series with the best 120 golfers. Why not make the PGA this series where the best compete? If Annika is not good enough for the PGA, then she's not good enough (and we'll know more after tomorrow). But I don't buy this discrimination crap. It's called the PGA, not the MPGA. chachi 0 #22 May 22, 2003 Then why are you allowed to have the LPGA. THere would be holy shit if a male that wasn't good enough to make it in the PGA went to try out there. Let's stop gender separation is all i am saying. ~Chachi
CanuckInUSA 0 #23 May 22, 2003 Quote Then why are you allowed to have the LPGA I know what your arguement is. But IMHO, there's nothing wrong with having a PGA (mainly played by men) and an LPGA (for women only). If a woman is good enough to play in the PGA, then why not let her. Are we (as men) so afraid of being beaten by a woman in a sporting event? Is that really why some people are rejecting the notion of Annika playing in this tournament. Once again, this is just my opinion, but we as a society need to move forward and let the best people no matter who they are compete at the elite levels of sport (and any other area in society). Annika kicks ass ... you go girl. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

ThighMan 5 #25 May 22, 2003 Ok you all, you are forgetting the point. Imagine if the top rated Male golfer went to the womens open and played. The out cry for being "UNFAIR" and "He is a MALE" would reach the high heavens. It is crap. Keep them separate or let the men play with the women on the womens course.
