AggieDave 6 #1 May 27, 2003 Anyone else here really enjoy Bluegrass music? I always have, just haven't really had any good albums or anything, but I would enjoy it when I heard it (especially live). Well, a long story, but I ended up on a country station that plays bluegrass gospel music on Sunday afternoons, listened for about an hour and had to go download a LOT of bluegrass, especially old gospels. This stuff is great! That and I'm jealous of the playing abilities of the guitar players.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." lawrocket 3 #2 May 27, 2003 Aggie: I love it, and I purchased a mandolin so I could start playing it. Unfortunately, there aren't too many cats in SoCal interested in playing it with me... Ricky Skaggs is a God! My wife is hotter than your wife.
AggieDave 6 #3 May 27, 2003 I second you about Ricky Skaggs...I want to learn how to play my guitar in a bluegrass style before I purchase any other instruments, but you know, this gives me a damn good excuse to get a Banjo (which I've always wanted to learn).--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Muenkel 0 #5 May 27, 2003 Growing up on Long Island there wasn't much of an interest in bluegrass or country. However, lately I have been listening to both a lot more. I particularly like Alison Krauss and Union Station. Chris _________________________________________ Chris
jwilson 0 #6 May 27, 2003 Yeah.. Bluegrass is alot of fun. My dad just had a party last weekend and that's pretty much all we did was play bluegrass. We had like three guitars ,a banjo, a flute,a Dobro(sp) and some hand drums. It was a blast. Check out a band called Nickel Creek if you get a chance. Also, there are alot of really cool bands that aren't that well known like Red Headed Step Child and Snake Oil Medicine Show. A good place to find some of these and others is to look up Bluegrass festivals on the net and if the band has a website there is usually a link from the festival site. Amazon 7 #8 May 27, 2003 That was a really cute Movie.... and I am not a real big fan of bluegrass or country ( force fed the Grand Ole Opry every Sat night by grandfather) but I loved the music in it. Gotta love the Soggy Bottom Boys. Amazon
GARYC24 3 #9 May 27, 2003 Being raised in Kentucky (the Bluegrass State) I love it..We get a bluegrass gospel radio station here in Ca...I have been to the Bluegrass Festival in KY. Bill Monroe was there once. My next instrument will be a mandolin, the prices aren't that bad for a Washburn or a Kentuckian. I've seen 10 yr old kids play the guitar, banjo, fiddle so good at the Bluegrass Festival it'd make you cry! Gary Calhoun
outofit 0 #10 May 27, 2003 i am a big fan of it. we listen to it at the airport all the time. the banjo is by far my favorite instrument to listen to. It is better to be dead and cool than alive and uncool!
