Mark & John @ Perris

There were some serious "time before the second" events at Perris. Never been there before, did a coupla things in the sky that were new, too.

But the best event was seeing my brother again after nineteen frickin' years. He's all grown up, and he's quite the Southern Cali surfing stud, and wants to jump, but like me, had already locked in plans for Memorial Day Weekend when this unexpected reunion suddenly dropped into our laps (it's a long story).

Imagine my surprise, however, when in the Bomb Shelter on Sunday morning, his fiance (who is really sweet) non-chalantly let it slip that she's done a tandem AND and AFF Level 1! I looked at my brother, and he said slyly "I thought I'd sneak that up on ya.":D

He emailed me this photo yesterday.

Get him in the air this summer when he heads north.

Dat's da plan! I'm going to drag him to K-Pow when he comes up to Kelso via Portland on 20 June for our sister's college graduation. I've been deciding whether to take him to Molalla or Kapowsin, and was helped by some folks who reminded me that although Molalla is closer to Kelso, WA (78 mi) than K-Pow (110 mi), it's a quick, straight shot to Kapowsin; whereas a drive to Molalla will involve going through Portland, unfamiliar DZ (for me anyway), and so forth. Besides, I'm already waivered at Kapowsin for this year, it's a familiar DZ, and I know camera flyers there who would be willing to shoot the jump.

He expressed keen interest in jumping, and mentioned that it would be very cool if he got licensed, etc. and that way we could sport-jump together. That's really exciting! Imagine being with your brother at the WFFC! :D:SB|;):)

It was really good to meet you, Mark -- sorry we never got to jump together. On the other hand, when it's time to sit back, it's time to sit back!

Glad you got to see your brother again, and under such great circumstances, too. We expect pictures when he makes the jump!

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)
