Safire-1, with low jump numbers. What's it worth these days?

Recommended Posts

I've seen a Safire-1 139 that I'm thinking of putting in a second rig, but have no idea what they are worth these days.

Am I right in the thinking that a Safire-1 139 isn't really a 139 in size, but is more like a 129 cause of the different methods of measuring canopy size?

It is stated as having about 95 jumps and in excellent condition - I trust this judgement. I don't have the DoM.

Are there any specific things I should ask about a Safire? I've read about a mod. that can (should?) be done on them, but not too sure about it.

What would be a reasonable ball park figure for the canopy, if it was just as it was when made, so no mod., and has 95 jumps?

If you look on here you will find lots of post on the Safire 1. You are right about the sizing it is 8% smaller than stated size. Also there seems to be two types of Safire 1's, the ones that open softly and have tons of flair power and ones that open hard and have a whole lot less stopping power. Ones that are made in Spain will open great and flare great and it seems that some of the ones made by Precision have issues. My second canopy was a Safire 1 made in Spain, no matter how I packed it I always got great openings. Personally as far as price goes it would depend on where it was made but my guess somewhere around $600 US or so

I had a safire-1 119,

Mine had hard openings until i upsized the slider by ± 20%
On my DZ there are a couple of other Safires and they have the warning label in the middle of the center cell, on the seam. They do not have opening issues

Mine had the waring label next to the middle seam on the center cell just like the precision aero canopies i've seen.
I'm not 100% certain but i believe that is the only way to tell. Those are the only ones affected with the size and tougher openings if i am correct.

Cheers for that.

Does the canopy label on the centre cell have the place of manufacture, so that can be checked?

Yes, there is a white box that will either be stamped Precision or another symble for the spain plant(if memory serves it would be similar to the USPA symbol of old)
