mccordia 74 #1 May 30, 2003 Who realy misses the skydivingmovies ftp :) Every friday at work would be a party...after 16:00 I'd spend a whole hour surfing for skydiving movies and watching them..preparing myself mentaly for the weekend to come... I'd be hogging bandwidth at work with skydiving stuff, while the rest of my collegues would be doing the same thing, only with porn and movie-trailers :) It always made me happy.. PilotDave....we misssss you!!! (and thanx for the great service!! It made me happy so often!!)JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

skreamer 1 #3 May 30, 2003 Why don't skydivers share their movies via Kazaa? I mean if people were happy to share their movies with whoever via skydivingmovies.com, why not share via Kazaa?
riddler 0 #4 May 30, 2003 That's a good idea. P2P makes more sense for community sharing anyway. If we precede all filenames with "skydiving", so as to be able to filter them from all the other movies. It would also be easier to search for them. Edit - I just had a thought that there may not be enough skydivers with skydiving movies running machines all day to make it easy to find them. Anyone know what happened to ftp.skydivingmovies.com? I missed that drama.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
narcimund 0 #5 May 30, 2003 QuoteAnyone know what happened to ftp.skydivingmovies.com? I missed that drama. Something about its hosting going south. Of course we all know of at least one web hosting company owned by skydivers, but no one's asked them. First Class Citizen Twice Over
PhreeZone 20 #6 May 30, 2003 Are you willing to host it for free? I think the average bandwidth draw was about 10-12 gigs a week. And the files are about 10 gigs total.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
jfields 0 #7 May 30, 2003 QuoteAnyone know what happened to ftp.skydivingmovies.com? I think the reason it went offline was that it was housed on a box using a university's bandwidth. Graduation, then, voila, no more free bandwidth. At least, that is my understanding of the deal. skymedic 0 #8 May 30, 2003 No, it was being hosted by Andyman's company's servers...his boss told him it was sucking up too much bandwidth..and was told to drop it..... Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....
jfields 0 #9 May 30, 2003 Ah. Maybe I'm thinking of what it was before it moved to Andyman's. Whoops.
pilotdave 0 #10 June 6, 2003 I'm finally back. Been offline for the last week. Moved to CT and joined the real world. I actually moved into my real apartment last night. Cable and internet will be installed on sunday. Got my computer at work yesterday but was busy all day (and my "superior" sits right next to me so I can't exactly goof off). Anyway, I haven't heard back from the guy that is (was?) supposed to take over the hosting. A month ago I thought I was a couple days away from being up and running but now I have no clue. I'll try to find out what's going on. Thanks for all the support! (and by the way, this Comanche stuff is pretty cool! Dave
