skybytch 273 #26 June 8, 2003 Quoteeven the "trouble student" tandem terminal dive Wasn't tandem terminal a rush? I loved the feeling of slowing down when I threw the drogue on that one. QuoteI can't wait to take real students on their first skydive and experience the happiness and positive energy from them Personally, I'm looking forward to your story about your beer student who lets all that happiness and positive energy flow out all over the front of them - in the form of barf! But then again, I'm a bytch. Be careful, would ya? I always worry about my friends who do tandems...
PhreeZone 20 #27 June 8, 2003 Make sure the student gets their feet all the way up before you get your feet down. Also its not a good idea to slide out a tandem landing like I do on my Jedei. Sure... 30 feet skid marks on the canopy is impressive on sport rigs, doing on tandems is'nt so cool.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
AggieDave 6 #28 June 8, 2003 Oh god, a barf...I can only hope it never happens, but I know it will eventually. Well, I'm doing what I can to be safe...atleast I'm jumping the most state-of-the-art tandem rig available, and we're getting skyhooks put on them too.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." AggieDave 6 #29 June 8, 2003 Well, on days like today, sliding landings are sort of the norm...(hot, no wind), atleast from what I've seen with the Sigma 370 canopies (same airfoil as the Vengence, just no airlocks). Sliding for 30ft though...that's a bit much under a tandem. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
skybytch 273 #30 June 8, 2003 QuoteWell, I'm doing what I can to be safe...atleast I'm jumping the most state-of-the-art tandem rig available Yeah, the Sigma's are sweet, far superior to the Vector II's I was jumping. And the canopies too - you are SO happy you don't have to jump all F111 421's. Trust me on that one. Landings - learn the butt slide, and like phree said make the students lift their legs (I found that telling them if they don't lift them they'll break worked best ). But again, with the Sigma's the student is in a better position (better harness) so it's easier for them to get and keep their legs up. Sheeit... you're gonna have more jumps than me before this year is over...
AggieDave 6 #31 June 8, 2003 I'm planning on having over 1000 by the end of the year...well, that's my goal atleast.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
skybytch 273 #32 June 8, 2003 QuoteI'm planning on having over 1000 by the end of the year...well, that's my goal atleast. Mine too. Shall we place bets on who gets there first? I'd say it isn't fair cuz you're gonna be doin' 5-8 tandems a day and not having to pay for jumps, but I only have 70-ish more jumps to go so the odds are actually pretty even. Why - back in my day - all we had were F-111 PD 360 POS ... opened hard, steered hard and landed hard. My spine has never healed from those landings. Up hill, both ways, in the snow. And our father used to beat us every night, But we were glad of it, etc."
 AggieDave 6 #34 June 8, 2003 You should have said you did it with 50' rounds... Ok, update: Did the 10th tandem jump this morning, finishing up that part of the course. I still have to do the Cat D student jump (normal, not tandem), that'll be done on Wednesday and shouldn't be too hard (I hope). The tandem went well, the experienced jumper (who is our primary pilot) was trying to do turns while in drogue fall, I didn't know he was wanting to do turns on his own, so I was flying it, not letting him turn, then locked his ankles with mine to keep him flying right...then I did some turns. Once we were under canopy he commented "dude, its really hard to turn in drogue fall..." we had a good laugh with that. Even finished it up with a stand up landing. I can't wait to start jumping with real students.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
