Vallerina 2 #1 June 10, 2003 So, my dilemma....I don't know if I want to really go to the Convention this year...maybe just for a 3-day weekend or so...but not for the whole time. I'll state my case for/against the WFFC, let me know what you think, and fill me in on some alternatives. I really wanted to do Lost Prairie, but airline ticket prices are at about $500. Unless someone is driving from my way or if anyone has frequent flyer miles they want to give me, I don't think I can hit it this year. Reasons to go: It's 1 1/2 hrs from my house Eating, breathing, living skydiving for 10 days is cool Getting to see old friends Meeting the many people on dz.com Reasons not to go: I want to see something new I want something more laid back I want to go somewhere with better camping Nothing but skydiving for 10 days may make me burnt out The other thing I was thinking of doing was just road tripping for 10 days with no particular destination. I'd just aim in one direction and hit whatever dzs or cool interesting things I see on the way. Unfortunately, I don't have a camper, so to make that really fun, I'd have to borrow one (which I think I can do.) I'm all conflicted! Help! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
jfields 0 #2 June 10, 2003 Do you have to worry about leave time from a job or not? If so, just hit the convention for a few days. If not, convention for a few days, plus some road tripping.
 wmw999 2,577 #3 June 10, 2003 There will be a WFFC next year, and the year after that. You live close, and can get your fix. Also, then you'll have money for the Christmas boogie in Eloy. I'd go on the trip. Camping at state parks can be beautiful, and you can always go to a DZ if you decide you need someone to talk to. It's a bit further away, but should be less stressful. Also, I did get word that the area designated as 'Tent City' will be only slightly larger this year, but I don't think the changes will make much of a difference. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
 Vallerina 2 #6 June 10, 2003 QuoteDo you have to worry about leave time from a job or not? Somewhat....I have 18 days left for the rest of the year. It's a lot, but I still want more, and I still have to decide what to do with it. QuoteAlso, then you'll have money for the Christmas boogie in Eloy. Maybe...I know I already have a ride set to and from the airport and a place to stay (best friend moves to Phoenix in a little over a month.) QuoteThese sound like good reasons to find a way to Montana. I was really wanting to do that, but it is so expensive to get out there. That was my first choice! As for camping at Rantoul, no matter what, there isn't a good solution. Camping in Tent City means crappy shower "facilities" and port-a-potties. Camping in the RV park means a long walk (I can't afford a golf cart) to the planes. Sigh....maybe I'll just use that time to take long weekends to places like NJ, Atlanta, or who knows where else? There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
 freeflir29 0 #7 June 10, 2003 A lot of people do half and half with the convention and Summerfest. Not sure what the future of summerfest is this year though. You could also skip those and wait for Richmond or Couch Freaks. All excellent Boogies so I hear. I somewhat went to Richmond last year, and I'll have time/money to do Couch Freaks this year no matter what. Head east through Ohio (u know the state). Go to the NE VA dzs, up through NY, NY & such. Or there's about 4 around Atlanta. I'm trying to see if there'll be enough $ after moving to go to Chicks Rock @ Elsinore... could check into a tour of the south west. hey, if you have time to blow.. you could help Heather & I move into the apt in Houston (jk).
