MyOwnWay 0 #1 June 10, 2003 I was wondering if anyone out there could give me their opinion on universities in Florida. I am hoping to transfer there fall of 2004 to pursue my dream of being a marine biologist. So far, I am only thinking about applying to Florida State University and University of Tampa. I have only been to Florida twice, and I have never had the opportunity to take a campus tour, look around the city, etc. If anyone has ever lived there, went to school in Florida, or has any connections to Florida, PLEASE let me know what you think. Any advice will be helpful._________________________________________ all good things are wild and free - Henry David Thoreau
skymama 37 #2 June 10, 2003 I've lived in FL for most of my life and live here now. You listed 2 great schools, but also look into: University of FL (Gainesville) University of South FL (Tampa) University of Central FL (Orlando) I don't know about their Marine Biology programs, but they are all in good cities where you'll be close to a dz and will be able to find other things to do in the areas too. I believe UT is a private school which will be more expensive than the others which are all state schools. But, UT is a good school; one of my cousins went there and he liked it. There's also University of Miami, but I'm not really fond of that area. Also, FL State is in the upper part of the state and is really rednecky and there isn't much to do in Tallahassee. Let me know if you have any other questions. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

Stacy 0 #4 June 10, 2003 i would thing that for marine biology U of Miami would be an excellent choice as well, very close to the Keys and the lauderdale/treasure coast area.

Jib 0 #7 June 10, 2003 Remember, Florida is a huge state. During the winter, it can be pretty cold in, e.g. Tallahassee and at the same time, 80 in Miami. On the other hand, you're better off than being in the northeast! -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. txblondie 0 #9 June 10, 2003 The difference between TX and FL is that TX is not as humid... If, for some reason, FL didn't work out, Corpus and Galveston both have a branch of UT (University of TX) with excellent marine biology programs. I know because there was a time I wanted to go into the field. I just never had the time, money, or self discipline to go to school for that long. Congrats to you though, and power to you... If you ever do come to TX, hit Skydive Dallas, and we'll have hella fun! ***************************************** Blondes do have more fun!

Ummm -- you live in the Dallas area Also, if you establish residency, the Texas schools are probably cheaper for in-state tuition. Steel 0 #11 June 10, 2003 Dallas Humid? Do think that a place where people have to water their foundation to keep from getting cracks on the ground which will in turn crack the foundation of their houses causing extremely expensive damages, is a humid place? Dallas compared to just about anywhere in the East coast is anything but humid. Having grown up in the East coast with all the trees and insects that accompany humidity I wasn't sure whether or not to refer to Dallas as desert or not when I first moved here. With time ofcourse I found out that there were dryer places like Phoenix or Death Valley. If I could make a wish, I think I'd pass. Can't think of anything I need No cigarettes, no sleep, no light, no sound. Nothing to eat, no books to read.
txblondie 0 #12 June 10, 2003 Ummm -- you live in the Dallas area *********************************** No offense, but Houston is like its own separate world...in lifestyle, I'd say there were similarities, but in weather, we're worlds apart! *********************************** That said, for marine biology and skydiving it's good -- there's a good DZ really close to Galveston, and the A&M as well as UT has a marine biology program. Wendy W. *********************************** Yes, I forgot about A&M, mostly because I used to be a huge UT fan, and I never checked out the program at A&M. But actually, A&M has a great marine biology program! ***************************************** Blondes do have more fun!
TheAnvil 0 #13 June 10, 2003 Did a few road trips down to FL STATE in the early 90's in undergrad and had a DAMN good time! Great party scene! Can't say anything about their marine-bio program, but I'm sure it's good. Other schools might be closer to DZ's.
